Those do look pretty good, but might not be the best choice for me.

G'Day,

I got a Citizen Blue Angels Nighthawk today. I have been wanting one of these for a while but never pulled the trigger. I found a good pre-loved one and decided that it should be mine, it is close to XMas after all!!!

What a watch, photo's don't do it justice. This is my first aviator watch and really like it.

Cheers, Pete

Nice! I’ve always liked that one but I’ve changed what I want so many times, I so want one with numeric hour markers vs just dots or bars just like your 12 & 6, the same with min, 5-60 at each hour, yet I’d prob never be able to afford it if I ever found it so I just gave up looking,,

Nice one, Pete!  I don’t have that exact model, but can say first hand that Citizen Eco Drive are good watches.

Though I'm still on the fence about the Eco-Drive, I can really appreciate the Blue Angels connection!

Thanks for the comments.

I have not had any issues with any of the Eco drives I have - 4 in total. It really saves on battery changing costs. The divers I'll get checked for water resistance but that is about it.

If you are on the fence, I say get one. You will not be disappointed.

Great watch.  I have a Citizen diver and it is fantastic.  Have looked longingly at other Citizens but not where my focus is right now.  I'd like to cave but my eyesight without glasses renders much of the watch pointless at this time.  Glasses obviously help but even then, some things are getting too small.

I'm still on the fence about the Eco-Drive

Owning or having owned most of the movement types out there, I’m pretty convinced that Eco-Drive (or other quality solar) is the way.

In a nutshell:

Disposable battery - Batteries need to be replaced, which can be expensive and can compromise the water resistance of the watch.

Mechanical - Generally poor timekeeping accuracy relative to other options; short power reserve

Solar - Much better timekeeping accuracy and much longer power reserve relative to mechanical , but batteries do not need to be replaced.

Solar: aye, there's the rub. Sunlight isn't something too commonly seen in the Detroit area. I used to live in Fresno, CA, which got an average of 300 days of sunshine per year. Whether I'd derive any great benefit from solar is something I'd have to further research.

Incidentally, I'm shopping for a new watch. Photos will be posted herein should I pull the trigger.

While it’s true that direct sunlight is most efficient, a solar watch will still get some energy on a cloudy day or even from artificial light.

You also might be surprised how little exposure it takes to keep the watch charged…

Might be worth looking into as a potential future purchase. (Any watch that requires charging via USB or suchlike, however, is a no-go...I do enough babysitting of charging batteries as it is.)

Yes, the biggest downside of smart watches IMO is having to charge them all the time…

I got this one in today:

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

It's a Casio GD-400-1. I thought it needed a new battery until I remembered that it has a fifth button for the backlight. Perhaps needless to say, I like it a lot. I'm now a fan of BullBars, too. And my GD-100-1B will now be worn only at work.

Each to his own, of course, but if you take your watch off at night, laying it on the charger is no different than laying it anywhere else.

As much as I love my G-Shocks and other watches, after rocking a smart watch for a while now, I am never going back.  :tu:

You’re not wrong.

I’ve had an Apple watch for over six months now.  Certainly in terms of functionality, there is no comparison with more standard watches (even ones with a lot of features).

But, I guess I still haven’t made a firm habit of putting it on the charger every night, which means about half the time I want to wear it it isn’t sufficiently charged.  20 years of automatic or solar, and I’m just not used to having to do anything special with a watch to keep it running.

And of course, when out camping somewhere where access to power is limited, a watch that doesn’t require it has distinct advantages.  I’ve been on more than one campout where the smart watches worked great for the first day or two, but then became worthless because either the chargers got left at home or there wasn’t access to electricity.  My dumb watch didn’t do anything fancier than tell time (and date), but it continued to do so reliably all week.

My new Christmas gift from the wife.  Timex Expedition Grid Shock.  I like the big chunky watches and I also like the fact that I don't have to squint to read the time.  Win-win!

Fenix 7 SS.

I also have a DW5600, a Citizen nighthawk, a Swatch fast track automatic chronograph and another Garmin FR935.

Ever since Garmin has added all day and night metics and I am working out every day, I seldom put on a watch that is not a Garmin. I have sold my "battery almost dead" FR225 and FR735XT.

Sometimes I wish I can keep logging the metics and still able to put on a regular watch.

Swatch Right Track black SVGB-400
Automatic chronograph, plastic shell. I think the movement also has a few plastic part and not serviceable as the case back is pressed in.

I always want to have an automatic chronograph. And when I knew there is a cheap one from swatch, I got it right away. The original strap was faux leather and flaking, replaced it with a cheap aftermarket silicone one. The buckle is replaced with the original swatch one from the old strap. I think the glass is sapphire.

Eye catching. Reminds me of roulette. I like changing straps too. Cheap(er)  way to get new look to your watches.

Oh agreed.  I've been playing with a few Timex lately, cleaning them up, new battery, etc. and a 99% of the time a new strap.  It definitely changes the look.

Got these three, since the last time I posted in this thread.

A brass Tandorio 47mm, for my aging eyesight, a brass boderry and a SS Cadisen. The first two run on Seiko movements and the last one on Miyota.
The Cadisen is definitely the best value for money, but has some rough edges at the bottom of the case.
