Modified Wave Giveaway
on: July 30, 2008, 05:17:45 PM
Today i built a modified Wave using original new parts.
It is handfitted to tight tolerances, and it's put together using pre-oiled parts, so the life expectancy of this one is probably longer than regular versions.
None of the items exhibits side-to-side play when you try to wiggle them with your fingers.

As you can see in the pictures it has a 154CM plain edge blade as well as a serrated blade with guthook from a Charge Xti.
I left out the standard eyelet, so you can now use a removable eyelet and a pocketclip together, and these come with the tool.
There are also a few extra steel spacers whereever i could fit them in.

You can have this handfitted Wave sent to you for no cost whatsoever, if you can give me a good and solid reason why you should deserve it.
The winner will be announced by me next Wednesday the 6th of August.

Alas, if only I had waited a week before ordering my own Wave. That Wave looks quite impressive with the 154CM blade and the guthook. Any reason you are giving it away so freely?

Although I would LOVE to have it, I don't deserve it.  I have been more than lucky since I started here and have received lots of things from a lot of generous members.

I am sure the recipient will be very happy with that one.  :)

I deserve it because I only have 61 Leatherman Tools already :D

I would like it however, because it is unique, and that is what all collectors strive for is it not? I can't afford the truly lovely LM tools that Adrian Pallarols produces, or even the Anniversary Charge model, so whenever I stumble across something that is different rather than valuable - that's what I go for!

Thanks for the chance to participate Kwakster  :salute:

I used to come here a lot.

Very generous offer indeed, but I don't need another multi. I have the Swissgrip for heavy-duty tasks and there's a Fuse on the way for everything else. Hope it gets to some fireman or something...

I only have 2 Leatherman tools. One is the Fuse, which is in the start of a collection case, and the other is the new Wave I EDC. This could make a nice piece in any Leatherman collection as a "rare" or "never before seen" unit. You are the Master!!!

Why should I have it....

Good question, I own some good knives, some good multitools and on this site I have made some good friends.  I have yet to win anything on this site, in fact in life ever since I lucked out and won my wifes hand in marriage I have not won a thing.  But enough of the sob story.

I would like that knife for one very important reason, but first I need to tell you all something quite personal.  As a young probationary constable I was assigned to a close protection squad.  Part of this involved dynamic entry into certain addresses.  One day my mentor (who shall remain nameless) and I were in the process of a rope entry (basically rappelling down a wall to enter a flat window about 5 stories up)  Unfortunately there was a cluster mess up and the kit we had previously laid out had been mixed with some old kit to be destroyed due to metal fatigue.  At the time we had no idea and it was only later discovered some time later after the tribunal.

Anyway, my mentors harness split/cracked/failed and in the melee of getting through a smashed window and the subsequent fight with those inside he fell back through the window.  The harness should have worked perfectly but did not.  As a result my mentors fall was broken not by the belay but by the "dead mans" knot that resulted from his harness failing.

Bottom line is my mentor had his final tour of duty that day.  I was left devastated, as I did not have a blade strong enough to cut him free from the ropes that were cutting off his oxygen that day (the crappy ones supplied were blunt as anything...mine snapped and I could not reach his rescue hook...bear in mind we are going back over a decade when steels such as above were not generally known about).

Since that day I have always made sure I have some form of rescue blade with me...and in fact I have used them several times on duty to "rescue" people trapped in burning cars or from self harmers attempting suicide.

I swear and avow that if I am lucky enough to win this knife that I would use it in anyway I can to save the life of others...including my partners so I never have to loose someone I love again.

Sir,

Whether I win or loose thanks for the chance to get this off my chest and good luck to everyone,

Stay safe,

Flash

(I have rushed/glossed over some details as its still a bit tricky for me to talk about...apologies)

I need that Wave, but Flash needs it more! Give my vote to Flash.
