Hand size
on: May 29, 2015, 05:20:24 PM
Hi Everybody

I bit the bullet and ordered a BK2 with the understanding it would be paid for with June's paycheck.

It's arrived, and I fondled it on Tuesday.......realized one thing: I have considerably larger hands than any YT reviewer!
I'm not (much) disappointed, but I was expecting more.....

I've decided to stop buying factory knives for now, but I had 2 BK's on my list - either BK2 & BK3, or BK2 and BK9.
Finally decided on the BK9, and now I'm slightly sorry I didn't order that first....

Most of you would choke if you knew what I have to pay for them, so I'm a bit hesitant to mod, but now I think I'll have to do something to make them more special.

Yeah that's a bummer.  I'd hasten to add tho if you know your hand size is considerable just assume that most have smaller hands.  I've seen some tubers that hold items I'm familiar with and think WOW it looks massive but in my mitts it's normal to small.

If you plan to keep the knife and see it getting normal use I'd encourage you to "make it your own" especially with the price you paid.   Enjoy

I had the kabar large heavy bowie and becker bk9 on my wants list a while back. I found the kabar first. When I finally got to hold the bk9 I was disappointed and didn't go through with the purchase. Over here the bk9 retails for two to three times the price of the kabar. If they were the same price I might consider trying it but I wouldn't trade the kabar in for the bk9 atm.

A buddy of mine works at a camping&tackle shop, and I pushed them to start stocking more knives.....he actually ordered the Large Heavy Bowie thinking he was ordering the BK9.....so I've held that......I'll hold out for the BK9 despite price.

I'm actually worried about 2 or the 3 TOPs knives I still plan on buying some day, I'll find out how they sit in my hand the day I get them....

I was a bit underwhelmed, and I've got some nice micarta waiting to be used, so it'll be stripped & pimped  8)

Good to hear you will go thru with pimpifying it.  Make sure to post pics when you got it done.  I haven't held any TOPS knives but I would like to.  I'd like to hold the Camp Lore series knives by Esee.

I am unclear what you are somewhat disappointed about. I have a BK2 and I have pretty large hands (size 14.5 ring finger) and find that it fits good. Any time you watch something on YouTube, you have to keep in mind how big or small you are compared to the. Or all human being. I did some modding to the becker and I find it to be a nice knife. I got the edge I want but I find that it does not throw sparks as well as I would like with a piece of flint. What's the issue?

Hi All

Simian - Short version: It's smaller than I expected.  Didn't quite get the wow-factor feeling when I held it.
Stripped and with my green wool micarta it will hopefully be stunning, and I'll wait for the WOW when I get the BK9.

Toolguy - LOL.......never seen a Maxpedition Jumbo pack, but my sympathy if you are similarly afflicted
I grew out of normal sized clothes and shoes by age 17, it's been a life with several disappointments  , but at least I had backup for my bad temper
