I am always surprised by how many take-aways and deliveries (pizza etc) people that claim to have no money get... some just buy ready made foods every day, smoke and then claim to have no money.....
I though that the EU was going to make us all richer and happier.. Wait until you join the Euro.. then the real fun begins.

From what I got (Jeez, British ENglish is a scary thing No offense meant ) one of the guys in the vid said... if they work more... they'll get just a tiny amount of money MORE, but this small amount would be enough for their benefits to be cut off. So, they're better off staying on benefits, getting a liittle less money instead of working their a**es off and being paid slightly more? This is because more and more companies are offering lower wages and zero hour contracts. You may say 'so what' but workers here fought long and hard for good working conditions - companies never ever give up any concessions unless they absolutely have to (US civil rights activist Frederick Douglass said “Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.”These hard won rights have been eroded by the last few governments we've had. Why would you want to work for crappy wages on a zero hour contract for less money than you can get on welfare? We have a tax credit system here which supports big corporations paying low wages by making up the wage - basically it's soSmurfpillsm for the rich and capitalism for the poor. We bailed out our banks, we prop up our royal family but all that is fine - just pick on the underclass and the foreigners. Please don't watch those shows NNR - they're horrible and demonizing.

Since you can generally get a car with 0, or 0.9% finance, the loan doesn't really cost you anything.

Pay day loans and other bad credit banking services just exploit the genuinely desperate and the genuinely stupid. The genuinely desperate need assistance not penalising, and the genuinely stupid need to not be able to make such choices/decisions.The genuinely desperate need protecting from exploitation, and the rest of us need protecting from the genuinely stupid.
Another thing that surprised me in the very first vid I linked (I think I heard correctly) is that a guy said he'd started getting such loans at the age of 16. Isn't this too young to be allowed to do this? Someone compared these loans to smoking, so if cigarettes and alcohol are not sold to people below 18 (here), how can a 16-year-old get such a loan?
Hm.... sounds a bit like some huge conspiracy But I get your point. There will soon be Diaper&Puree Loans
Compassion is what we need.
Totally with you on this one, magentus. Quote from: magentus on June 19, 2015, 09:54:59 AMCompassion is what we need.Have some more: Somewhat relevant to the whole payday loan thing is Finland's commitment to basic income. Would seem to be a sensible step towards eliminating the need for these sort of loans.
This is turning into a very interesting thread for me.We often discuss this at work and at home.My personal view is that it sometimes feels as though we are slipping back into the Victorian era. By that I mean certain family businesses dictate how we must live. Zero hour contracts, low paid jobs. Here on the UK labour is now so cheap that businesses couldn't give a damn if you stay or walk away.Yet the paradox is that those of us that actually want to work and "stand on our own 2 feet" constantly have to accept the bullying, intimidation and low wages whilst others who have absolutely no shame simply carry on living on benefits.Almost all my immediate family are "bent" pay zero tax, claim benefits and basically toss it off. Yet they are the ones going abroad this year.I really wish the government would have the balls to stamp it all out once and for all.
Where've you been?
