An interesting coverage on TV.

Bulgaria turns out to be the most expensive place to buy basic stuff.

A journalist went to other countries, chose random/average store chains, bought products and compared prices.

They looked at bread, cheese, fruit, vegs, eggs, diapers, chicken.

A roll of kitchen paper/paper towel is twice cheaper in the Netherlands than in BG

The price of eggs in BG were the same like in other EU cities (in comparison to salary difference between here and the other EU cities)

The prices of yellow cheese here are higher than in Paris and Rome.

Bananas cost  more than in Madrid and London

Diapers in BG cost 0.5 EUR more than in Paris.

An average chocolate is twice more expensive than in Paris.

Ok, what do you think about the show "Skint"? Just came across some episodes today. They make the pawn shops look like some charity organization, helping people so much. But it does look like they provide a much needed service.

Pay day loans and other bad credit banking services just exploit the genuinely desperate and the genuinely stupid. The genuinely desperate need assistance not penalising, and the genuinely stupid need to not be able to make such choices/decisions.

The genuinely desperate need protecting from exploitation, and the rest of us need protecting from the genuinely stupid.

Allow me to echo that, along with all my coworkers.

The software I support is rental property management optimized for affordable housing. I know how the system was supposed to work. I know how it could work and how it can work. How it does work is what happens when the safety net becomes a hammock. Problem is, the game is now so rigged its insane.

I'm a capitalist. And I know how capitalism can be unbalanced and corrupted into defacto feudalism. I argued with people about this my first round college, 20 years ago. Market will correct they said. Bah. Humbug. Break the balance of power and you get a run away system. I'm being proven right and I hate it. SoSmurfpillsm is just as bad and gets you to the same place. Or either one will give you get anarchy. Or World War IV (if you accept that the "Cold War" was a world war, just not a very organized one).

I miss the Cold War some days. There was at least the balance of no one really wanted to pasteurize the planet.

And yes, I'm drinking tonight.
