Year of thexperience Tiger here.

Tigers, considered to be brave, cruel, forceful, stately and terrifying, are the symbol of power and lordliness. In ancient times, people usually compared emperors or grandees with the tiger. Court officials often said that 'accompanying the emperor is just like being at the side of a tiger'. There are also many legends about this animal.

Cruel, stately, terrifying.  Yup, that's me!

Stately? Don't think so. Can think of a number of other adjectives that start with 'S'.   :pok:

Cancer, year of the Pig.

I think my North American birth animal is a Goose or something.  Maybe that's why my wife calls me a Goose all the time?

I don't know if any of you are familiar with the writings of the late Dr Lyall Watson? In Supernature,he looks at research done into horoscopes, and there is a (weak) correlation between personality types and Sun signs.(and yes,Watson lists all the papers published to which he referred)

Isn't that just a roundabout way of saying the season you were born in has a possible effect on your personality? Did you spend your first months of life breathing fresh summer air or stale indoors winter air, for instance? My mother once commented it was better to get children in spring, because it was easier to launder cloth diapers in summer. (Yes, I'm old.)

Quote
One of the other subjects Dr Watson looked at was the influence of the moon on life on Earth. One wonders if the position of the other planetary bodies can also have an influence?

Uhm... The moon has a very obvious effect on life on earth, with light at night, tides and probably other stuff as well... Pluto... Not so much. (And if Pluto, why not Ceres?)

... written by an Aries, btw.

I am a fanatical astrology and other unscientific theories enemy. I prefer the chainsaw or shotgun but occasionally I choose the RPG when I find teams of astrologers at shooting range. I tell you, I fight them as a raging bull.

My theories, based on a couple of years studying hypnopsychotherapy:

We are influenced by four factors; nature, nurture, experience and circumstance. I'm not going to rule out celestial alignment as somehow correlating with the nature influence, as there do appear to be reflections of themes/traits to varying degrees. However, I do see the horologists as being quite like the psychologists who follow very defined paths, in as much as they often seem to focus on a narrow part of the influential spectrum, and the analysis can suffer as a result.

I believe the more eclectic the approach, the better the appraisal of the individual. Person centred, psychodynamic, behavioural, and gestalt approaches can offer differing but complimentary perspectives if used together. I see no harm in taking a horoscope's perspective so long as it's not viewed as absolute.

Another useful tool is chirology, again not as a fortune telling gimmick, but as a reflection of personality. The mind is not a seperate entity to the body, and each is reflected in the other. It can act as a rudimentary "map" of certain traits to expedite a formulaic approach, and can occasionally highlight contraindications which may be less apparent if restrained to dialogue alone.

Even simple visual clues such as "murderers thumbs", will save time in identifying they have less desires rather than repressed desires, and often have even less will to pursue those desires. This is why these people often appear very loyal. An inexperienced therapist or analyst with a longer distal phalange or broader proximal phalange might waste time trying to identify/reveal something that isn't there, or waste time trying to fix something that isn't necessarily broken

Well, the cool stuff of Astrology is predicting the future, not splitting the world into 12 (9, 16, 60, etc) types of people. I am not going to let those snake oil salesmen off the hook with some vagues statements invoking the Barnum effect. :D

I don't know about this Astrology/Psychology stuff but I've always considered Phrenology a pretty good tool in predicting future behavior. Take my miserable ex-brother-in-law for example...raising a new knot on his head was a surefire way to alter his unacceptable behavior.....  :tu:

The esteemed behaviorist Hank Williams Jr. wrote a treatise on this therapy.....
