Homemade sheath for Mora Classic No1
on: July 14, 2015, 05:20:29 PM
Im not a huge fan og the sheath for the Mora classic  No 1. It does not hang well on a belt IMO.
So I decided to make a new one.

I used leather that I soaked in warm water and stiched with fishing line. After it dried I soaked it with leather oil.
Its not pretty, but it works well. :)

I guess you formed it around your knife when it was wet....What kind of leather oil did you use?

Yes I did.
I used a cheap generic one, that I found at a large hardware store. "Biltema"

Nice work. What did you use around blade? (i do not know right word for this. It is "lesti" in Finnish).

@toolguy, these orange pants and jackets are mandatory at certain jobs here in nordic countries.

I was just kidding. We have to wear that type of safety orange when we hunt during certain seasons.

Looking great mate. :tu:

Funnily enough I was thinking just last night that I should make up a leather sheath for my Classic No 2/0.

I have been watching this trend of safety colours changing for good years now...

Here's a tip. Instead of leaving extra leather on the outside of the seam for the attachment...wet mold the hole on the inside of the seam. For rings I punch a couple holes and insert a piece of chopstick...straps, just a couple slits and a scrap of leather.

The hump is created by molding, not excess leather.

I made wooden spindles for different sizes because I had a bunch to make. Note that the blade area is made wider and thicker than the blade to minimize contact...just like there is space inside the original plastic sheath.

Thanks guys!

Mike: great sheats!
Ill try it your way the next time :)
Mine will never look as good as yours. My fine craft skills are non existent. Ugly functional is the best I can achieve :D

Crow: i didnt use anything inside the leather. I just oiled and wrapped the knife in cellofane and wet shaped it to the knife.

Here is mine :)
Built around the original plastic sheath ==> keeping security (no risk of piercing the sheath with the blade tip) and getting something a little nicer:

This aint Boy Scouts! We dont have no Leatherworking merit badge... we only give badges for important stuff, like carrying the same thing for an entire month.  Pretty soon yall will want badges for something really silly like getting your birth year SAK, or duct tape repairs.
