Grandfarther's meat cleaver

.....and worked just as well for cutting corrugated iron sheets when he was building.

I found and mucked around with this when I was a kid, thankfully didn't do too much damage...
The micarta is Hessian, green wool cloth and black cotton swill, pins are 6mm brass rod.

It's cold blue'ed, not the greatest result but at least it won't rust.

My dad is pretty chuffed with the result, it will be used for butchering now and again, and I plan to improve the patina at some stage.
It's a hand forged tool that had a hard life, now it might even reach the next century  8)

You should see my dad chuckle when he recalls my grandfather taking apart a bovine carcass with that thing, no matter sheep!
What gets me is the next day a hammer would help it cut corrugated iron sheets......my one doubt about the restore is that I cleaned up the spine.
