Thanks for doing this Powernoodle, the Great MP600 Burial Project of 2014-15 was also great so I expect this project to be even better.

I can't wait to see the result. I don't think it will be too bad - probably nothing a good scrub and lube couldn't fix, anyway

But I don't want to put money on it ;)

My charge needed a 24 hour coke-bath just for being sitting in a skinth at home (like 3 weeks without oiling).
I'm glad there's the sheats around it, so we know where it was and where to look for small rusty pieces of metal  >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D

None of my Leatherman tools have rust on them, I find it odd how easily some folks tools rust these days.  I kept my sideclip in a sheath in my truck for at least 5 years and it didn't get even a spot of rust.  And this was in a very humid environment in central Texas.

The only tools I have with rust on them were delivered to me that way.

I have to say, I'm not bashing LM for the rust, I actually like Leatherman multitools quite a lot, I own 3 of them: Charge TTi, Crunch and squirt - and dreaming of Rebar and Micra.
I may even go as far as to say that I usually prefer either the Crunch or the Charge over the SwissTool, in fact I've never carried the SwissTool in the last months, while I usually have a MT on me almost every day.

Still, they are prone to rust, but if you oil them regularly, they won't rust, and everyone is happy.

This.

I have a Rebar on my belt right now that sees a smurf-ton of use, sometimes with wet hands.  I oil it every time I remember to(which equates to roughly twice a year), and it has absolutely zero rust going on 3 years of solid use.  I've seen some specks of rust on a few Blast blades in the past, but nothing like what some folks seem to get.  I'm not saying it doesn't happen, just that it doesn't seem to happen to me.   :D

Just as a reminder, this is what the Gerber MP600 looked like after one year underground and prior to cleaning.  It still opened smoothly - which I attribute to its loose tolerances - and cleaned up nicely, though some staining remained.  I will be well-pleased if the Wave fairs this well.
