Why didn't you tie a string too it?!? Plastic weed whipper cord should last a year or so

Good idea.  I may try that in the future.

Hm... The MP600 came out surprisingly clean, and they're more prone to rust than any Leatherman I've had, at least from my experience.
The soil is probably protecting them from exposure to a lot of the damaging elements outside. I bet if you laid either of these tools on any surface outdoors in my area they would be utterly ruined in a year.

You know, I think it'll be worse than the MP600, but not by a lot. The pliers will be quite difficult to unfold, i bet.

When I first got my Wave, just the atmospheric humidity caused widespread, light rusting. So I am betting the moisture from the soil will have taken a toll

Now that would be an interesting test :o I am not brave enough for that though myself  Would be fun to snap a pic weekly or every other week and show the progress

This has me excited enough so don't know if I could stand that or not :ahhh

If I had to bet, I'd bet that the LM comes out a bit worse than the MP600 did last summer.  But I agree with you about just laying both on an outdoor surface exposed...I also think they wouldn't be in any shape for use.
All in all, Powernoodle's experiments are really interesting!   :ahhh
