Some may recall that I have been searching for an original PST II, produced before LM started labelling them PST II, using the same handles as the PST, with the lettering "LEATHERMAN TOOL" only.

I actually had one of these and gave it to my 12 year old daughter, who despite increasingly ridiculous (and expensive) "bribes", won't let me have it back!

Anyhoo, I found one on ebay a couple of weeks ago, and managed to get it shipped to the UK for a total cost of about £11 ($22), so that was a bit of a score - or so I thought.

When it arrived, the tool was in quite a poor state, and had been left to rust for some years I would estimate, so I was quite disappointed. There was also some significant damage to the scissors (bent).

However, I decided to attempt to restore it, and yesterday set about dismantling it. I left it to soak overnight in WD40, and was delighted this morning to see that most of the rust had floated away, and that I was able to shift the rest and polish out any tarnishing with my Proxxon (Dremel).

Surprisingly, the tools seem to have hardly been used, so now that its reassembled it really is (almost) as good as new.

So I have a perfectly good PST II, for £11, together with the satisfaction of having saved it from probably being binned.

I took some pics of the finished article, but will have to post them up tomorrow for lack of a cable to upload them to my PC.

I used to come here a lot.

Yeah, I'm really pleased. These variations are becoming a bit tricky to find, so I'm glad it worked out, and I quite enjoyed the "restoration" too.

I'd call that a result!

I used a small vice and some big pliers and slowly bent it back to where it should be. You can barely notice now. It was much easier to do once the tool was dismantled. Once in bits, I could get the Dremel on all of the tools and clear off any remaining traces of gunge / rust.

I undid the knurled screws using my Crunch to grip one side and my Charge to turn the other. The grooves in the Charge's plier jaws align pretty well with the teeth on the screws, so it was pretty easy to do.

Well worth it!

How is the rivet hunt going Dave ? I was going to ask about how you got the knurled screws apart, so now I need a Crunch ::) :D. I have concerns regarding damaging the teeth on the knurled screws or the tools surface near the screws. I look forward to seeing the before & after shots Dave.

It's off for the moment on account of me being skint! I'm concentrating on filling the gaps in my collection for now, (need a Charge Ti, a Charge AL and a Knifeless Fuse to have one example of each tool made), all are available but my new policy of not paying more than £10 is making it a bit challenging :D Then I can carry on with the variants.

Yeah the Crunch does the job admirably, and you're right, it seems pretty easy to damage the screws, so go slow and steady!

Thanks for the pics they look fine to me :salute: ;) :D

Wow :o much longer than I thought before they redubbed it PST II then  wonder why so long before the rename :ahhh looks like it would have been confusing for both to have looked cosmetically the same for so long :P perhaps that's why they made the change ;)
