Ashley,

Nice one, is this your first Case piece?

So, are you going to let the blades age naturally or are you going to force a patina?

NutSAK,

From the pics looks like bone to me. Their delrin is usually pretty consistant in color, even on the older models. The slight fade you have in this one towards the bolsters strikes me as bone.

Thanks for your input doubletap.  You confirmed my suspicion.  :tu:

BTW, you mentioned forcing the CV patina...  I've been letting my CVs develop on their own, but I'm so anal about maintenance (clean, then whatever oil is available) that I'm not sure it will ever happen.  I cut apples, limes, etc. but will immediately clean and use facial oil if that's all that is available. (eww!  :D)  I've been considering using vinegar or mustard on one of my CVs to force it.

DOH!  I see that you had already commented about how you like it, but I was so caught up in the lovely pics I didn't even see it!  :ahhh

What is the pattern number on that one?  EDIT: uh, never mind, the pattern number is pretty clear in the photos.  I really must look at the whole post before responding....  ::)

If you clean them up after use it will take a while to form a good patina. The thing with forcing it is you can attain a nice even patina that doesn't get all splotchy. Lots of different methods out there, warm vinegar, mustard, apples, onions......got to start off with a very clean blade though.

Paul I have no close ups of it right now. I believe the Timber Wolfs are excellent for the price. All of mine have about a 7 pull, snaps like bear traps and no major gaps. I've really enjoyed mine. Hope that helps.

i was looking forward to getting the barlow but it didnt take me long to decide to keep this one, happy accident  :D its pretty well made with a nice snap but not a nail breaker, sadly a little blade rub but its on the main blade i would use so no worries, nice looking knife,  :tu:

Looks good, and nice pics. That Timber Wolf appears to have a pretty solid F&F. Not sure who is actually making these but it looks very Rough Rider-ish.

Got a neat one here I've had for a while that has a cool little story behind it.

When I got this I thought I had taken pics of it but apparently I didn't and just cleaned it up and put it away with my others. Took these pics yesterday. Anyway I got this knife about a year ago from a friend as a gift. He told me he was sending me a little something as a gift for getting him addicted to Great Eastern Knives......I wasn't expecting a GEC knife. Way more than I deserve, that's for sure.

Anyway, a while before this he had contacted GEC about having them build some knives from a block of Rosewood he had. He contacted Chris at GEC and they said they would but it would be made on a upcoming run of patterns they had in the works. So he sent the block of Rosewood and they offered him a choice of patterns they would make it in. As he was looking to get knives for his grandkids, and one of them was a lefty, he opted to have the Rosewood made in a #73 pattern they were going to be running in a left hand version. It was a short run and they sent him a couple, and one of those he sent to me as a gift for pulling him over to the "Dark Side"!  ;)

Here it is........

It's a GEC Tidioute #735109EC LHL pattern. A end capped #73 Scout at 3 3/4" closed, in left-hand configuration with a linerlock. Late 2009 production and a very short run, only 15 were made.

Bolsters and shield are of nickle/silver, pins and liners are brass, scales are very nice Rosewood slabs, blade is of 1095 carbon steel done in a brushed finish. Fit and finish is clean and flawless. Typical of GEC there is no gaps anywhere, blade has zero play, backspring is quite stout and the spring rests flush with the blade opened or closed, clean grinds with a decent edge, and the blade when in the open position mates up to the backspring nearly seamlessly........

A great little knife, and for me one with a nice story behind it. And one given as a gift from a fellow collector and all around great guy.
