Recommend a Pocket/Portable Scale
on: November 21, 2015, 06:17:45 PM
I want to get a small scale that I can use to weigh my various gadgets (knifes, flashlights, etc).  I want something on the smallish side, that runs on batteries.

Any recommendations?

Just a heads up. Most small scales have a limited maximum weight. If you try and weigh a Leatherman Wave for example it will max it out and not be able to get a reading. Depending on how small you want to go it might be useless for weighing MT's. Definitely make sure it has a maximum weight that is more than you will be needing.

As for suggestions. I have owned these two.

These first two say 1000g max so it should be good as a Surge only weighs 335g. The first scale (BL-1KG-BLK) has been excellent. Both of these carry a 10 year warranty as well which when it comes to inexpensive scales it is (in my experience) probably going to be used. I would suggest the first scale over the second. Just personal preference and it is smaller yet the same capacity. I have also never had problems with the scale in the first link.

There are countless scales on Amazon. What is your price range and size limitations?

Look at kitchen scales- the kind people get when they have dietary issues.  They are very accurate and pretty cheap.  I have a Starfrit one that I really like and I think it was all of $20-30.

Thanks.  Never thought of those used for kitchen/food usage.  I'll have to check them out.  Size it not terrible important, as it will be staying at home on a shelf.

Oh, if only I had more room in my signature line for more quotes....  :pok:

Here's the scale I have:

It's easy to use and has other uses as well- like weighing food portions, not that I have ever done that... obviously....  ::)

I also have one of these:

I purchased it from the local purveyor of rock'n'roll merchandise at the local flea market and I'm pretty certain it's the only one that he has ever sold that was not pressed into service in the freelance pharmaceutical or botanical industries.

Dave's not here man....

I have this scale:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IZ1YHZK

Since it weights up to 2000g, it has been useful for measuring weight on very small packages (think a knife or MT) so that I can use USPS's online prepaid labeling.
