So, the REV is the new Sidekick for Home Depot to try to cash in on for the holidays, likely at an even higher profit. So, the Sidekick left overs after Christmas ended up marked down to 9 bucks. Like them or hate them, 9 bucks for a functional good quality multitool is just stupid cheap.

Do you guys see the REV getting knocked down to this low as well? Because it might just make me try one for the hell of it.

Consider this thread first.

If it's for yourself don't unless you are a collector. As a gift for some one in your C list or lower, yes if you can get one for about $10. I plan to get one for $12 for our postman and my wife's favorite butcher.

If they get near $9 and some are left, I might snag one just as a complement to my Vic Hercules. The package opener is a cool little feature  :tu:
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

I know that many around here don't like the Rev, but I've been carrying mine for a few weeks and I enjoy it. Half of the year I work for the US Forest Service, and the supertool 300 is my favorite for that kind of work, but right now, I'm working retail and rarely need anything more than a long Phillips and a large flathead/pry bar. That makes the weight of a supertool slightly unattractive. I personally like the pliers on the Rev more than the sidekick, and I don't notice it in my pocket. Yes, I prefer the skeletool for edc, but at work the flat head on the rev is more handy and takes less time to deploy. As long as you realize that it isn't as sturdy as the higher price tools, I think you'll find it to be a decent tool. I paid $20 for mine and I would gladly purchase it again. Finally, this is MT.O, isnt it? I think members are required to buy everything...

Are they the same pliers as the Leap?

I don't really understand the concept behind the Rev:

There's the Wingman with combo edge knife and scissors and then there's the Sidekick which is, essentially, a Wingman but with a plain egde knife and a woodsaw instead of scissors. Finally there's the Rev with a plain edge knife and no other tool opening from the outside

I'd consider getting a Rev if it came with scissors.

My guess is they could not offer the Wingman or Sidekick below $25 anymore, thus the REV. It's main purpose is to compete with other generic MTs and lure customers into buying a Leatherman then later upgrade to a better model. That said Walmart has a decent full size MT for $3.87  I know, it's not funny but it's true. I see them losing this battle.

yes

In the TV show How It's Made they showed the Wingman/Sidekick spring loaded pliers made in Oregon. Does this mean that the Leap/Rev Pliers are made in Mexico?

I saw the Surge & Skeletool pliers head made (press & grind) in Portland with my own eyes. Not sure where they were casted though.

I still struggle to see how tools like this make a good impression as a "first Leatherman". I personally wouldn't be won over. I can see people buying them as an alternative to other cheap stuff because of the branding, but not convincing the buyer to stick with Leatherman when they upgrade.

I dare say, I'm not the target audience though. I don't think they're intended for people with awareness of other brands

Everyone keeps giving the Sidekick/Wingman/Rev family flak for being inferior, but for the price point, I feel you would be hard pressed to find another multitool that preforms as well. the blade is nice and slicey, the Phillips driver is great,  pliers are cast well, and the wirecutters are better than anything else in this price bracket.

Compared to similarly priced new multitools, this family is hard to beat.

Having said that, fir the same price, id rather buy a used Rebar than a brand new Rev

You can often get a Mp400 for about the same price over here (maybe not the Rev, but the other two) if you shop around, which I consider vastly superior. Don't know how applicable that would be over there. In fact I think I'd still rather have a Suspension
