Anyway.... scissors.....  :D

I know this video has been shown here before.....

I didn't get to stop there long, just popped in quickly while getting my windscreen repaired. I did get a chat with the guy in there, and asked if I could take a couple of piccies. He said "by all means, in fact we encourage it".

The old guy on the grinder is the guy in the clip. His name's Cliff

Are those the same kind of scissors used for cutting hair?

In the small shop area there's a glass cabinet with some of Russell White's knives from Taylors Eye Witness, a cabinet with some of Ernest Wright scissors, an area with some very fancy hairdressing scissors, and a final cabinet with some ye olde stuff in.

I picked myself out a pair from the display cabinet, and before he took payment he told me to check them for feel to make sure I was happy and passed over a thin piece of paper to snip at. Superb quality! The tension, the rub, the crink, everything.

I had been reluctant to cough up for some hand made scissors before, and now I'm kicking myself for not doing it before. Here's the pics....

(more details here http://www.ernestwright.co.uk/catalogue/browse.aspx?productId=303&breadcrumb=13_57 mine is the 6in pair)

Tony,

Yes, but didn't get too long to stop and chat with him. They've made it quite clear I'm welcome to go back in though

Steve,

The ones I got are desk scissors. If you follow that link and flick through the site, you'll see the other types they do

I didn't get long for soSmurfpillsing, and when I dashed off after a very short visit my car was already waiting for me. One thing he did say was that they are going to be launching a kickstarter project soon, as they want to resurect an old kitchen scissor design that hasn't been made for about 20 years, but they need a bit of backing to help them cover the cost of the press tooling. I asked him to email me with the details when they do, and said I'd share them here

I've got a 20+ year old pair of metal scissors (can't recall mfg but probably made like this ^) still going strong today and used practically everyday.

I also have about 8 pairs of "cheapie" office place style scissors thrown in a bin cause they stopped doing something right.

There is no doubt the quality difference in a good pair!

Cool! They look like proper scissors too, Robert. I do like to see screw pivots as well  :tu:

I do have a ye olde pairs of Sheffield made scissors that I inherrited which someone had left rusting at the bottom of a toolbox. The blades were really slack, but the pivot was peened. I had to get "creative" with a hammer to re tension them and try and crink them a little more. They work much better, but nothing like my new pair.

Maybe I ought to try and get a little more creative and see if I can squeeze a bit more performance out of them. They're smaller scissors than my new ones, so it would be nice to have them working well alongside  :)

If you can find them, a good pair of electrician scissors are worth their weight in gold. They cut through many things. I keep an older pair in the kitchen for general cutting use and a newer pair in a tool kit in my car.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

Very nice, Steve  :tu: what size are they?

They are 8 3/4" overall with 4" blades. The other pair  I have are identical.

How's that for a patina!  :D

Looks like they might have originally been school scissors.....
