Need repair suggestion for my Mr Pinchy v2.1
on: January 20, 2016, 05:38:34 PM
Hi folks,

I just found this forum last night, but have needed to repair my Gerber for a couple years now. Using this forum I learned that my Gerber is a Mr Pinchy v2.1 (or maybe v3?). I lost one of the screws that holds some of the tools together.  Any suggestions on sourcing a replacement screw.

I was given this Gerber back in early '96 by a friend of mine.  I used to carry it in my flight bag when I was a Flight Engineer on the DC-10.  Unfortunately, I can barely carry nail clippers any more, plus I'm no longer a flight engineer and no need for a multi-tool in today's more modern age jets.  They don't even let us reset circuit breakers anymore. :D

Here are some pictures (I still have the original nylon holder/sleeve, but I also broke the tip on the bottle/can opener >:( )

Thanks

No idea where to get a screw. I'd try emailing or calling Gerber's Customer Service. While I don't like the company as a whole, their CS department is arguably the best in the multitool/knife industry. They may have a box or two of spare screws from the old Multi Pliers hanging around, and may send you one if you ask. More than likely they will just offer to replace it with an MP600, but it never hurts to ask.

Other than that, I'd spend an afternoon at your local hardware store and start trying to fit machine screws into it until one fits. Bring extra screwdrivers! (or another multitool....)

Good Luck!

You may be able to find one at a hardware store that will work. If not look on knifekits.com. They have all sorts of parts.

Welcome, and I'd suggest calling Gerber CS for the replacement screws.  No harm in going down that route.  Finding and modifying screws maybe your next step unless you can source a damaged tool on an auction site for cheap.

Thanks.  I called Gerber, the message said/implied no humans will/can take the call and it referred me to the website.  I ended up sending an email to the general info email addy.

Hope I get lucky! ;)

If Gerber cannot help, I think I must have a disassembled Multiplier around with some broken tools.
