The dyed H1 next to black VG10
Contrast is better in person, or in decent well  illuminated photo

I carried a Salt 1 SE exclusively for about 5 weeks over the Christmas period .
I went overseas and needed a do it all single bladed knife that would handle salt water conditions .
On the second to last day before coming home I lost it after leaving it on a picnic table and it was gone 10 minutes later when I came back for it .
I didn't shed one single tear for that knife . It wasn't that I was happy it was gone , but I sure wasn't going to miss it either .
I realize now that my particular cutting needs and requirements are fully meet with a plain edged blade and that most modern steels will handle mild exposure to corrosive conditions with basic care and maintenance , using H1 steel is like stepping back 20 years in its edge holding abilities and general " feel "etc when sharpening and using .
I love my Spyderco's , and I'm sure like a large number of members here I bore everyone that will listen with tales of Spyderco's greatness .
I fully understand that other people have different knife requirements from me and its great Spyderco caters for everyone .
In summary , I tried it , didn't like it , don't need it ,wont buy it again .

I completely disagree, but that's alright. We don't all have to always agree. My cutting needs may differ from yours making our experiences with it different.  :salute:

I suppose I should have said that all I use and carry now is ZDP189 or M4 , my VG10 Damascus bladed Delica is the only exception and even that is miles ahead of the H1 in retaining an edge , maybe it was just my knife , but it dulled off very quickly and it was only the fact that it was a SE blade that keep it in a still vaguely usable state . I seriously think if it had been a plain edge I would have given it away and bought another cheap knife while on the trip .
Like I said in the first post , I fully understand if others have differing needs and if H1 fills those requirements , good stuff .

Rumor is H1's edge holding requires a break in of sorts (multiple sharpenings). The serrated version apparently has great edge holding ability vs the plain edge.

Well, I actually love the fact I can sharpen my Salt on a curb, or my coffee mug every morning. Gets scary sharp easily, and I also like how it bends and deforms instead of chipping, as I tend to pry and apply lateral forces with my knives more often than I should...

Of course everyone's cutting needs are different!
