My Spyderco UKPK is a fake
on: February 21, 2016, 04:00:20 AM

According to reviews regarding the spydie ukpk, the original one should have a slot for the clip for left handed persons. The blade should be stamped vg10 not s30v and I bought it from an unknown online seller.

Spyderco fakes nowadays are very convincing to look like originals, and it frightens me. Well because I'm saving to buy a PM2.

Assuming that what the reviewer says its true, and you have a fake, would you have ever realised that, on your own?
I assume you had it for some time and were happy with it.
Or, is it new?
If its new get a refund from ebay.

Never heard about a fake UKPK.
For Para 2 just buy from a reputable seller and you'll be fine.

Old UKPK were made in S30V. You should be able to feel if the knife is actually s30v. Sharpening it and edge retention.

Sorry to hear that. I started a thread long ago dedicated to spotting fake Spyderco's, but it did not take off all that well if I remember correctly and died long ago.

I only buy Spyderco's from confirmed Spyderco dealers as they are probably one of the most fakes knives on the planet. The PM2 being the top dog of fakes.

Just make sure the dealer you buy form is confirmed and your mind will be at ease from now on. Again, sorry to hear its a fake.

Didn't the old S30V UKPK still have the left handed cutouts?

Yes I think it did. Not 100% sure there was not a model without them though.

Teofilo, I don't know whether that UKPK is legit, but you may not want to write it off just yet.  Many Spyderco models go through various iterations, from the Spyderco Cat to the Delica.  The Cat, for example, had a clip that evolved, and it went from no jimping to yes jimping through various production models.

So just because your UKPK does not look exactly like others does not necessarily mean that its fake.

You could go straight to the source and ask Sal Glesser on Bladeforums.  He responds to threads and PMs.  Good luck.
