This thing of ours......
on: March 11, 2016, 08:47:24 PM
How and why we got started doesn't matter.  The fact that we all share in this thing of ours is whats important.  That we enjoy this thing of ours with like minded individuals.

When asked I really don't have a response that'll help them understand, why.  I love to share this thing of ours with anyone who'll ask though.  It's funny to note the glazed look when I start to share my excitement.  Even funnier when the look of "why did I ask?" as I describe the many variations of the PST, some very subtle.  How exciting the minutia, the mere evolution of some while others remain stagnant.

This thing of ours comes after what our grandfathers felt essential to have on them and something like our fathers might have carried.  Of course it may depend on where you are from and your age.  For me my father would not have carried yet had he known who knows.

I dig that it doesn't matter what walk of life you find yourself in, what profession, what your educational level is, or whether you use it or not.  This thing of ours is who we are and what makes us happy.

I picked up another one recently and instinctively I began to note all the subtleties that required me to acquire it.  Accumulation, opportunity, residual spending money, a treat, the one that'll complete our "set", just for the heck of it, and why the heck not.  Reasons enough for us to get just another.  Reason enough to warrant a second, third, a final one.

This thing of ours doesn't really require a specific reason no more than anything else does.

:twak: obviously you're not Sicilian at all. There is no such thing as "This thing of ours", or in Italian La Casa Nostra.  It's all a media myth!  Yes, Tony Soprano supposedly lived in the next town over, I've met a lot of guys in sanitation, and I met Joe Bonnono Sr at a wedding once. LIES! ::)

All joking aside, this place really is great.  I also really like knives,  therefore also joined a knife forum. Boy not nearly as inviting as you guys.  Many seem down right mean,  very snooty. Just really makes me appreciate this place even more. Cheers to the best darn crazies in the world.

You'd think a web site created about a hobby or interest would be inviting of similarly mined folks

I've seen the bickering on other sites.  Its very odd honestly and very very off-putting.  I really feel this thing of ours under the direction of DON DEF is truly one of a kind.  The members here are unlike anything, anywhere.

When you think about the many walks of life our thing here consists of, the many countries, view points, etc........

This thing of ours as I called it is a play on the "so called" thing referenced above by JD.  It cannot be duplicated by another forum, PERIOD.  This thing we have here by its nature weeds out the jerks.  Its infectious and amazing.  With DON DEF at the helm and all the regular contributors it really just keeps getting better and better.

I agree, I love this place. Theres a couple other communities I am a part of that are close, but most are much smaller, or more "exclusive" (to keep the jerks out) by nature. This was the first forum I felt truly comfortable joining, and the only one I actually talk about myself and my family.

Keep up the good work Def, and the mod team of course. This ship would have sunk long ago if you guys hadnt held the reigns the whole way.

The thing that appeals to me most, is we all think differently. If we were all like minded, there'd be far less to learn - and I don't just mean about tools either.  :salute:

Just as a multi tool has many different blades/tools, we have many different viewpoints, thats what makes it so good.

This place is a model of politeness where people can and do think differently. A lot of others could learn from this one.

Different need, wants, objective thats for sure.  We enjoy having tools that make getting thru the day a little smoother.  We enjoy the camaraderie.  The learning part is part of this thing of ours most importantly.  We speak different languages, come from different backgrounds, yet we come together.

So, I'm not the only one to feel somewhat awkward around some of the people I meet IRL everyday, like a rond peg in a square hole, and finding this group to be a perfect fit?

What the heck was I on?

Seriously tho this place is for me a happy place.  I enjoy it as much as I did in my early years here.  Where else can I talk about the things I love.  Like minded in a sense of we enjoy sharps yet as AW pointed out we do think differently.  Those differences are what for me keep it our thing so interesting.

I was trying to be fun when I worded this thread.  MTO is our thing, all of ours.
