Last sunday, I cleaned up a couple of drawers in my office desk, at home. I threw away ATM receipts from last century... From banks that stopped existing before this century...

Oddly enough, that sounds like me. Hell, I even got parts for tractors and equipment that I don't even own.

I can relate, but I got to say that even worse is when you've saved something for a decade and the week after finally throwing it out you realise that you need it!

I had a drawer full of computer and AV cables.  Hadn't touched it in years, so I finally decided I didn't need them so I tossed them.   Less than a month later I got a new TV and needed some of the cables I tossed out.

A friend of mine is having a garage sale next Saturday so I've spent the last couple of weeks digging out stuff to bring to her sale.  In the process I have disposed of over 100 pounds of useless junk that isn't even worth trying to sell and I can't even imagine what I was thinking when I kept it.  The house, and particularly my storage room, seems so much more spacious now I'm just going to have to acquire more useless junk.

Whether it is hoarding wood, or carrying EDC gear, its all about our vain attempt to manipulate our environments and provide a slight degree of predictability in an otherwise cold, cruel world.  And when the day comes that we need that board from 1982, or are the only person with a flashlight when the lights go out, we get a cheap thrill because on that glorious day the score is Us - 1; Cruel World - 0.  Sometimes we wait years for that thrill, but it is worth it nonetheless.

I can totally relate.
The other day I neded a new handle for a cheese plane. Guess who had old leftover hardwood piece of perfect size in the garage?

One piece of wood?
It might be about a metric ton which I keep back for later...

The one of many. The point was that I had the perfect one in the pile of pieces .  :D

Just counted.
It's eight pieces in total which are nor in use neither pre-shaped for something, but are within easy reach from my desk without even having to leave the chair.

Might need them soon.

My storage room looks about like that too. I try to keep a clear path from the inner door to the outer door in case of a fire.

I remember a story about my grandpa (on my mom's side), him and my dad were cleaning his shop and found a a 4' long glass tube he took it down looked at and said must of got this for something and put it back.

Then when rebelling, my mom's only response was, of coruse what else would you do.

That's what I'm going to do  :tu:  Well, same concept, I'm actually going to build an extra shed to take a lot of the stuff currently clogging up my garage and under the house (and no, my MT collection is staying in the house).

I can relate, but rather than wood it's electronic bits and bobs.

9/10 I can't find the part I know I have somewhere when I actually need it.
