That's very sad. It happens here, and Australia and California also, but I didn't think it was possible in cold and humid climates. I'm sure mother Earth will get well someday, but we humans might not be here to see it.

The thing to remember with forest fires is that the main thing we humans do to allow them to reach this scale is putting smaller fires out. Smaller fires will create natural firebreaks and while possibly starting in less optimal weather conditions while, as Grant (?) pointed out, these gigantic fires actually alters the weather and pushes rain away.

It's not cold or humid there.  In fact, temperasure were all over 30 degrees C and in some cases over 40 degrees for some time prior to the fires.  And, they are quite far inland, in all four directions, with very few lakes of any significant size or volume.

So, Canada=always cold and watery is just another stereotype. Anyhow, the Northen forest, together with the equatorial rainforest are vital for all life on Earth. This is a blow to the whole ecosystem.

Yes we see a lot of wild fires here in California sadly.  I drove thru an area that was hit recently and I could still see the scarred landscape.  It's incredible the damage that is left years later.  Homes are rebuilt and possessions are re-aquired yet the landscape in many cases still show the scars.  Not to mention the vast amounts of trees gone. Yes new life springs up from the destruction but man until then.

Canada is so bloody huge a landmass that we have virtually every type of landscape imaginable.  I have been to an actual, bona fied desert, with sand dunes and everything.  The Bald Hills of Manitoba, in case anyone is interested.

We have prairies that are so vast the government had to build s curves into the highways because people got hypnotized by the constant yellow line and no variances in the scenery.

We have a world famous mountain range with the Rocks.

We have ocean on three sides of us, and thousands of islands.   We have lakes that are so large that they can be treated as freshwater oceans (although we do share them with the US) and we have a river that makes the Amazon look like a small leak in the shower.

And we have frozen wasteland.  And forests.  I think the only things we are missing really is an active volcano and a tropical island....

Although this fire has burned enough that I think we can pass on the volcano.

And, to add insult to injury, they are now getting serious thunderstorms and are under a flash flood advisory.
