Close to the best day ever..!!

As some of you know I've been a "Metalhead" most of my life (I'm 41 now btw) and once a year me and two/three good friends
go to the danish metal festival "Copenhell" in Copenhagen.
This year The headliners were Black Sabbath wit their "The End" tour, King Diamond with "Abigail In Concert", Megadeth "Dystopia" and Alice Cooper and Scorpions (and a bunch of other bands)...
I've been a fan of King Diamond for nearly 29 years and I was really looking for seeing him Live for the second time.. The Concert friday night on the 24. june was fantastic (I knew all the songs by heart) and eventhough it was raining heavily it just added that little something extra to the show..   
On Saturday the 25 I was lucky enough to get a few of the 250 tickets for me and the friends to an arrangement with King Diamond at the Copenhagen Library.it was only about 9$ a piece, so King didn't make profit of the tickets, purely "rent" of the room in the library..  It turns out that he was staying in Copenhagen to see Black Sabbath with the rest of us Saturday night and he chose to spend some of the day with us, his fans.. I got a few good pics of him on the way in and since we came early we was on the second row..  :ahhh Then King (He's Danish, so his name is actually Kim Bendix Petersen) entered the stage right in front of us with old members of his first band Mercyful Fate, and told quite a few good stories about starting a black metal band in the 80'ies..  :D :D Afterwards I quickly stood up and besides getting a good firm handshake by my biggest idol, I handed him the stainless sharpie I won in a giveaway by Neil many years ago and got his autograph on my left forearm.. Two crosses - King Diamond - Stay Heavy and the number 9..  :o Then I stepped aside and let the other fans get their moment.. Outside I couldn't belive what happened and said to my buddies that we had to find a Tattooshop Asap... The only shop I knew in Copenhagen was "The Old Barber Shop" which has it's own TV-show (Just like Miami Ink ect.) But we just started walking googling for a shop when we turned a corner and saw nothing less than "The Old Barber Shop"..! It's wery popular and they're booked months ahead, but I went up to the manager and told him my story (Giant Smile on my face) and he called for one of the guys Bobby, who was on the way to his break, but when he heard what was going on, he jumped right in at made the tattoo for me..
So not only did I meet my Biggest Idol of all time, I got an autograph, Got a tattoo at Denmarks maybe most fasionable tattoo saloon and got to see Ozzy and Black Sabbath Live the same evening.. That day will be hard to beat for sure..  :D :D

Not a metalhead, but I can only imagine how great that must have been.

Amazing that an artist would be that open with his fans.  8)

Metal was big in the 80's but went back underground in the 90's- or sold out.  Metal bands and metal fans (coming from the perspective of a metalhead and doorman!) are some of the closest and most respectful artist/fan relationships I have ever seen.  While metalheads may have a rep for being over the top, the reality is (for the most part) their money is good and their manners are better.

I can only imagine how great it would be to have met King- I've enjoyed his music, but never been as into them as you are, although I can certainly imagine that I would feel exactly the same given the chance to meet Dee Snyder or Bruce Dickinson.... or the first time I met Tim Leatherman!

That is an awesome story, and it is so cool that you have the most awesome souvenir ever!

Cool story. I saw Black Sabbath in 99 When they headlined Ozzfest. They put on a good show.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

I hear ya on the downhill bit.

I used to be a big concert-goer, but after checking off most of the big names on my list, things just weren't the same.

Plus, now that AC-DC is more replacement parts than original, it just isn't the same to me.

Metal fans are the best!  I've been to hundreds of metal gigs - never seen any trouble.

The only trouble I've ever seen at a metal gig was instigated by non-metal fans. :td:

Awesome tattoo Allan, that is incredible.  As a huge music fan in my own right, I totally understand and I envy you getting such an awesome gift.  If I could meet Neil Peart I think I'd jump up and down like a little kid, but if  I got a Tat-ograph i don't know what I'd do!  Way to go man!

Not a metal head but dig some.  This is a wonderfully amazing story.  I love that you went and got tatted right on the spot.  What a truly epic night for you.  Congrats.

First of all Copenhell is a relatively "small" festival with 20.000 guests, but in the three years I've been there,
I've never experienced any trouble or fights ect. Just a bunch of happy people..  :salute: :D
I also posted this story in danish on FB in a group called Copenhell Family and after a short time the official Copenhell FB page also shared the post, so I guess that's my 15 min. of fame.. The cool thing was that I got a like from Livia Zita which is the wife of King Diamond.. :)
My only problem now is figuring out what to get tattooed, without getting to close to the autograph.. Talk about first world problems..  :P :D

Ozzy, Geezer & Tony did an AMAZING show for us and I really feel lucky to have seen the Black Sabbath.. I'm sure there's alot of different opinions about Ozzy, but when Sabbath, amongst other great tunes, played "fairies wear boots", "Behind the Wall of Sleep" and "Snowblind" it sounded EXACTLY like the Albums..  :salute: 8)

With them being from Aston, it was kind of compulsory to like them when I was teenager, lol.

Geezer is a big Aston Villa fan too, which endears him to me. Often shouts "Up the Villa" when being presented with awards etc :D
