German folding knife ID
on: July 30, 2016, 05:41:58 PM
In 1945 my Dad was released from Stalag VII POW camp near Munich.
One of the few things he was able to bring home was a folding pocket knife he picked up in the camp.
This knife was used by him from then until he passed away in 1993, it was used for everything a knife could be used  for & as such is in a battered condition.
Wood scales split, bolster missing.

There are no makers details anywhere only the words "ROSTFREI" & "GARANTIE STAHL" on the blade tangs. Would it be at all possible to ID this knife to any particular maker or will it be a generic design used by many?

I would really like to see an example of what it would have looked like originally.
The closest I've seen is the Grohmann single blade folder.

That is a nice knife with a great history behind it!
Imagine the stories that knife could tell!

Too bad I cant help you with its origins. I hope someone can.

I know this doesn't really help, but when I went to the flea market this morning, I saw a knife just like the one in the OP; the tag did not have any additional information that isn't already mentioned in this thread, though. :/

Thanks for all the comments & interest shown.
This knife is most definitely a keepsake & is the one knife I will never part with.

My Dad picked this knife up 71 years ago & I've no idea how old it already was then.
It does seem unusual to me that there are no makers marks anywhere on it.
It has however been retired from use a while ago as it is now suffering badly from all those years of service.

This must have been a beautiful looking knife in its day with its rosewood? handle, silver bolsters & brass liners.
