Already some really beautiful knives today!!!!! Wow!!!!!!'88 Winchester (Image removed from quote.) Trapper & Vic Sportsman(Image removed from quote.)
Again the navaja-type cheapo (I'm getting more and more ashamed to post this when I look at the other entries here...). This time a little close up of the handle. Like I said, cheap bakelite or another plastic material. The hues are pretty, though, and change according to the angle light shines on them.

That's a great pattern, and those scales look very nice. I have one in a different handle style, I'll be posting it up eventually. (Figured out this morning I have 29 traditionals — I may need to get just one more before this is over, so I don't have to recycle one! Case knives are addictive, but there's no way I could be a proper collector, as there are just too danged many of them!)
Hope you get well soon, Dean!Nice collection you got there!

I hear you about the addiction--I have to force myself not to look at GEC knives...
Day 3I need to disclose a small fact here, I've been having back trouble for a couple of weeks. As of yesterday evening it is officially not working. (I like to never got up off the couch) Without meds I'm not moving very fast, so there won't be any pictures of a pocket knife in use around power tools or much of any project.Probably won't be moving enough to use it some days. So with the devils permission I would like to stay in the challenge anyway. The pic may be nothing but the knife on my little storage box or on the table next to it before it goes in my pocket. I'm going to try to get a picture posted come smurf or high water.Today it's a Queen Cutlery # 9SBI bought my original #9 not long after the new owners took over. Some of those first knives were being made with springs left over from the old owners & some of them were suffering from broken springs. The spring broke last year so Queen sent me this as a replacement.

A bit more pricey than Case, that makes it easier to say "No." On the other hand, they are beautiful, the F&F is great, and they seem to disappear fairly quickly, so if a pattern comes out that you like, you have to buy it quick — that does not help the temptation any! I was looking on a couple places yesterday at GECs and every pattern I liked they were out of. Made my wallet happy, at least.

Are GEC's worth the higher price? The #14 looks very temting...I already have a Case mini trapper on the way though...

GEC is an order higher on the quality, material and fitment standards over Case, IMO. With that said, you will not go wrong with Case.I own 2 or 3 GEC "seconds" that have better build quality than any of the other traditionals I own. They obviously have very high standards in the QC department.

They do some really nice wood handles, the only downside is they have a reputation for being a tough pull (one of mine is, the other is fine). I've had enough Case knives to see some issues like blades rubbing or sitting too proud, and scale dye jobs being less than stellar. If at all possible, I like to handle a Case knife before buying, just to make sure there's no problems. Most are just fine though. It just depends on whether you think better materials and QC are worth the price. Sort of like comparing a Wave to a Spirit. Neither will let you down.
Yeah, sorry to hear about your back problems Dean.
Thanks Nutsak and Metasyntax! I used to be happy with my SRM knives. Now I own and love my Spydies and Benchmade.I used to be happy with my Ciol and RR traditionals, but now I have a Case on the way and drool over GEC. This place is not good for my wallet.
Quote from: Kampfer on August 19, 2016, 06:59:34 AMOk, After I wash the Opinel, the blade became so tight, it is impossible to open it. Taking Opinel's official advice, leaving it in zip-tie bag with rice overnight, let's see what happen.Yeah, when I wash mine I just leave it out for a couple hours and that gets it dry enough to open/close, although it's still tight. I think there's a way to seal the wood so this doesn't happen, I've never tried it though.
