Day 2
New day same knife, Northwoods IRJ.
I think I'll use this challenge to get to know a few knives I haven't used in a while.
I've fallen into a rut.  :ahhh

Another Imperial Elec. Not wood scales like I thought but they are solid. Almost looks like Buffalo horn or something man made. Any ideas what material they would likely be ?

Traditional Challenge Day 3

Queen Teardrop Jack w/D2 steel, brass liners and Aged Honey Amber Stag Bone scales.

OK.  This is an odd one, IMO.  I very rarely carry this one because I don't like the extremely polished D2 blades.  I do love D2 for its edge-holding ability and anti-corrosive qualities--I would just rather have a less polished finish.  It's also not put together well for Queen standards.  There are gaps between layers and some wobble in the blades, and who knows what the deal is with the tang stamp being on the "pile" side.

...not to say that it isn't "purdy".  Queen did a great job with the bone on these, and the deep grooves provide a great grip and feel.

Steve, I have no idea what that material might be, but it is pretty.  Is is some sort of resin, possibly?  ???

Some nice trads today guys!!!!

A older Schrade USA 8OT today with a Trail Guide.

The 8OT model was my first knife, given to me by Dad back in the mid 60's.  It was lost in the fire but the 8OT pattern is loaded with wonderful memories for me.   :)

Beautiful knife and nice looking sheath. Is it an original, did it came with the knife? I must make a similar one for my folders...

Thanks!  That's just a slip that a knife distributor gave me free with a purchase.  It was unfinished leather, and I just worked some Sno-Seal into it to give it that color.

I use it anytime I'm wearing slacks and carrying a traditional folder of 3.5" or less.  I have a larger ones for the bigger knives.

   Shes' a beauty.

I need to buy some used carbon knives.  I will never carry a singe knife long enough to develop a beautiful patina like that.

Nice Old Timer SG!  Reminds me of my Dad--he always carried a stockman like that when I was a kid.

That's a beautiful knife Terry!!! Queen did all the Winchesters for Blue Grass and generally did a fantastic job but I did get a couple like you describe yours to be.

I'll be toting some more high end knives as the weeks go by.

Same knife today, just attached it to my keys. Opened a pack of cherry sours, a pack of vertical blinds, and also assisted on unwedging that dang hanger bracket keeping them together.

Carried my Buck Stockman (371, made in China) today.

Used it only once: to open an envelope containing a Schrade Sodbuster and a Rough Rider Barlow

Busted!

First impressions are pretty good for such cheap knives (the Sodbuster was £8, the Barlow £10).

The Sodbuster isn't very sharp - the grind is even but a bit steep so needs a session on my Lanksy. The blade touches one of the pins if you let it snap shut, the pivot is a bit gritty and the liner-spring finish isn't great.  But it's a lovely colour, is nice and light, and there's a lot of blade for a small knife.

The Barlow is a bit better, though still rough around the edges.  The blades are both pretty sharp and nicely polished, and the action is smooth on both.  The nail nick for the clip point blade is a bit hard to access but otherwise it's pretty good.  Looks classy and is nicely balanced in the hand.
