25 yr Long Service Award
on: December 12, 2016, 01:43:11 PM
I've just been handed a letter from my bosses boss to say that I have been awarded a 25 year long service award by my company. I can go and pick it up from our main admin building tomorrow.

I've actually been with the company (that has changed hands 4 times in my tenure) for 27 years, and started on the Youth Training Scheme the day after my 16th birthday back in 1989. The first 2 years didn't count towards service as it was a government paid scheme, so didn't start officially until September 1st 1991.

When the company changed hands in March this year I thought the long service had been scrapped so was a bit cheesed off that I'd miss out being so close to it, so today came as a nice surprise.

Oh and the award is a pre-paid card with £500 on it  :ahhh :ahhh

Congratulations!
So, you unofficially started during the Soviet and Cold War era. I am older than you but I got my Medical Degree in 1993. I work for my Organization after my Specialty, just 17 years. So, yours, is quite an achievement. And you got half a Wenger Giant coupon for Swiss goods. That can never be bad.
I hope we'll celebrate your 40 and maybe 50 years here, in the future.

Quite nice, they recognize your loyalty.

  Congrats and well done!

I'm just passed 20 years as a working man and busy setting a new record, just over 2.5 years with my current employer.

My record up to now was 2 years and a day.......I smurf you not

My salary doubled each each time for my first 4 job changes, but that 4th company folded and after that it was bad luck and bad choices made in desperation.

Long service is less common by the day, but that's about the only way to be sure of a pension and retirement.

Congrats to you.  Its nice they recognized your loyalty and added in something to say thanks.

It's not so common to work for a company for so long.  At least I dont hear about it much unless its the military.  There was a time when you could take a position till you retired.  I've been at mine for 15 and feel thankful every day.

So any thoughts as to what you will treat yourself to?

Congrats. You've deserved it for sticking with them for so long

I'm thinking a small clamp on vice for holding things while working on them with my dremel, some dremel accessories, I could do with a new decent battery drill as mine has seen better days. I might get an Xbox game as well if there's enough left after all that.

I'll see what Santa brings me as some of those are on my christmas list my family asked me to do, then I'll go from there. I've got 6 months to spend it so no rush.

Congratulations, it has become less common for company's to recognize loyalty of its employees.
My first career job was 11 years, I left to better myself.  The 2nd was 27 years. Firm was bought and senior staff let loose.  Then asked to come back, 2 years that run, then sold again.
New job, over 5 years, with official retirement likely in two more.

That's awesome!  I haven't ever done anything for 25 years except breathe.  I haven't even managed to keep my anatomy intact for 25 years at a time!   :ahhh

The longest I have ever had a job was 8 years, and that was more than double my previous record....  :ahhh

Congrats and it makes a refreshing change for companies to recognise this these days :tu:

Thanks guys

I picked it up today, just as the same time as one of our top directors was also picking his up. I wonder if he got the same as me, seeing as he earns more a month than I make a year, and has his own chauffeur.

I've got 18 months to spend it. I think I can manage that  :D

Congrats.  I had 15 years with Air New Zealand and more recently I clocked up 10 years with Boeing.
But these days it's hard to get a job that lasts much more than a year. and at 50+ it's bloody hard to get another.
