David, I have a question.  I've not come across any GEC's in my journeys and I'm curious how they compare to the Cases as far as fit and finish or feel.  They look absolutely gorgeous, and the factory is 2 hours journey for me from home but I've not seen one.

Barry GEC's fit and finish is better than the average Case. But they also cost more. They are produced in small runs of a certain model then they move on to another model and do a run of it with different covers and finishes. The main reason you dont see many of them
is they have only been in business since 2006 and there are not many made at a time. Production has gone up in the last year. Lots of info on their web site. Great Eastern Cutlery

No it is the same knife. When Camillus changed the true Whittler to the current configuration they called it the Carpenter and Whittlers knife. Later they just called it a Whittler knife. I call it a carpenter knife cause I like the sound of it.    :) The early ones were a little different than the later ones. Pics of a first generation and a later long line.

From what I understand is they were changed in 1946 to the basic 72 we know today. The first generation had a different blade configuration and the coping blade on the end has a half stop. The clip grind has a more pronounced curve to it and both sides of the blade were saber ground on the very early ones. They were all bone covered and some of the second generation had bone covers also.

Not carried a trad in a while (been on a SAK kick) but decide to grab my RR mini Trapper.

Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.
