These Japanese hand plane can slice as thin as 6 microns   :o

While that video shows quite awsome and lovely plane work I do need to point out that Japanese hardwoods provide some of the best suited lumber for this kind of stuff anyway. I'd like to see anyone try that thing on pine or spruce.

Speaking of sharp,edgy and Japanese... I really love this classic video:
