I've always been fond of a well preserved Vietnam era kbar, but they are almost as hard to locate as Randall #1s and 14s from that era....

I wish someone, would make a larger kbar wider blade, just a bit thicker, maybe 2 inches longer. Eliminate any squared off tang areas to mitigate the chances of snapping while batoning, for those who don't bring the most important survival tool with them...the brain...

Kbars are excellent general purpose outdoor knives. If I had the tooling and expertise to do it, I'd give it a shot.

I've also considered adding the D2 Kbar to the list, but I wouldn't beat on it.

That is one of the most bad a$$ kbar style bowies I've seen in 50 years.

I hate to say it but it probably outperforms it as well....thanks.

I think of "grail" as something I cannot afford, not so much as something I wont spend the money on.  My tastes have changed over time and while the BM940 was on that list its not something I cannot afford in all reality.

I'd like a custom of some kind ( fixed blade ).  I'd like to work with a knife maker and make suggestions if possible.  Then the knife would be a one off more or less.

Folding knives I can't really say what I see as a grail knife.  I am on and off again with folders.  I can't see myself spending much for something I may or may not carry.

At least with a fixed blade I surely would carry it and put it to work in my kitchen at the very least.

I'll have to get a pic of my Black Talon, Hatamoto and Caledonian Edge up for you soon. Also have a first run serrated and plain edge Spyderco Civilian set I got at an antique store here in TN!

Some really good knives on here. It doesn't necessarily have to be a folder Aloha. I'm still hung up on the 940-1. It's the carbon fiber. I'm really curious to see how the s90v steel is. Honestly I'd be ok with it in s30v even 154cm to some extent. But I understand they want it be a premium folder. Is s90v really that much more expensive than the others?

I do believe that S90V is more expensive stock not to mention working it.

My current grail knives (which I think of as knives I'd love to own but can't currently afford) are:

Fallkniven Northern Lights series Frej:

and

This Shirogorov 110 axis lock:

I don't use the term grail, but there are knives I actively seek out.  The Kershaw 4001 Tilt was a model that I tried to secure for years but both finances and opportunities were extremely limited at times.  I was elated to finally score one earlier this year at an unbelievable price and in new condition.

There are a few more high end Kershaws I'm after, but to me they represent specific points within the company's history and that's what I'm interested in.

There are so many knives I would still like to get, I thought it would be easy to work out the favourites, but it's not!

This is as close as I could get, in no particular order:

1. A Randall of some sort, don't even have a favourite model because if I look too closely I'll cry.....

2. A recent addition to the list and the only slightly likely possibility is a Bowie from SA maker Philip Dunn.

3. A Sebenza

4. Since I dared mention a folder, Jim Skelton's whole collection would be next on my list

Honorable mention to complete sets of Cold Steel Master Tanto and Warcraft Tanto.........

.........A whole ESEE family with orange coatings and green handles......

......(almost) Every Bark River Knives model ever made.......

Shall I continue?

Orange and green with black Trademarks?? Holy Smurf!! It's the Great pumpkin Charlie Brown!!

I want one of those...like a JUNGLAS...it just screams..."STEAL this fixed blade!!" Don't it?? Don't it?? Oh come on!!

That's funny right there...I don't care who you are.

Maybe some blood red epoxy designs "dripping"....ZOMBIE knife.

Seriously though..great knives, easy to maintain with a decent rust protectant, easy to sharpen in the bush.

But there is no comparison IMHO with a Randall Made knife from FL!!

A stainless (plain impact resistant and cold resistant stainless - not a "premium" stainless) version of the DuPlessis Warthog with G10 handles in a smaller and cleanable kydex (maybe?) sheath. That would be a perfect "do everything" knife for me.
