Simple Duct Tape fixes
on: October 17, 2016, 02:19:20 PM
We use a wooden dowel to keep the cat from opening the sliding door to a closet. It broke. I'm cheap. Wood glue alone wasn't enough to fix it, so I reinforced it with duct tape.

My wife uses an envelope to keep coupons but the envelope started to fall apart. I'm cheap. I used duct tape to modify into a brand new coupon holder with an extra pocket on the opposite side.

If its dumb, but it works, it's not dumb!  Great job!

Cost wise though, I have to wonder if it would have been cheaper to get a new envelope than use that much duct tape to create one?  Anyone have a rough estimate of the cost per foot of duct tape?  :P

Probably would've been cheaper, but this will probably last a lifetime or more.

I am a geek, so I decided to do the math, just for the fun of it.  Here are my results, using a duct tape price from Home Depot and an envelope cost from Staples.

Duct Tape
5.97/roll
20 yards
20*3= 60 feet/roll
5.97/60= .0995, rounded to $.10/ft

Envelopes
$14.96/box
500/box
$14.96/500= .02992, rounded to $.03/envelope

Assume 2-3 feet of duct tape means a max cost of roughly $.30/envelope, or the equivalent of ten envelopes.

So, as long as your duct tape envelope lasts longer than ten standard envelopes, you are golden!  :D
