Success!  Thanks for the heads-up Mags!

Scratching definitely would have occurred had I not used the tape.

Also, the snap has miraculously returned to the awl!!!  I felt like there was mutiny happening within this SI.   :P

Good job El C :like: :like:

thanks Ponch! Now that I did it, I realize I should have used the hook to help pull from the other side, or just used two hooks.

Upon further inspection, I realized I didn't get away completely unscathed. There is a tiny scratch on one of the little pyramids.  :-\

Top tip - the bail makes a good nipple ring - pretend to your partner you went out and had a sexy body piercing! You'll laugh all the way to the spare room!

you might want to protect the scales with some masking tape (ask me how I know).

How do you know??
I received a laser fax from my future self in 3165 explaining that they made a mistake and scratched the scales removing the bail of the heirloom 1997 SI I bequeathed them. They have basically wrecked a 1,168 year old SAK. It was worth bazillions of space credits. :ahhh
Seems like you plan on living a long time then...

That is an awlsome combo.  :tu:

Removing the bail from my last-gen SI has sent me spiraling out of control into a bailless alternate dimension of SAK ownership.  I KNEW I was getting a solid rivet '94 but I THOUGHT I was getting an '01 Soldier, turned out to be a SI which someone, somewhat ungracefully, removed the bail from.

Here's the thing... on my new SI  AND this '01 BOTH have tiny nicks in the blade where the blade has accidentally shut on the bail.    That's another mark against the blasted bail.  The knife feels a LOT better without it IMO.

So here I am, bailless and shameless... I hope you guys still let me be in the club.   ::)

It's a tolerant club here El-C. One of the things I like about the SI is that the hollow rivet makes it an inclusive SAK. You can choose whether to have a bail, or a piece of twine through the hole, or nothing at all. OR if you're a pirate captain you could weave SI's into oyur beard and hair to look more fearsome!

The blade catching the bail is something I don't understand. How difficult is it to make sure the bail is out of the way of the blade? It's prolly the same people who regularly close the blade on a finger who do it.

Those are some sweet SI's you have there
