    Nice one, Aztec.  I'm sure you will be interested to know that your knife has full hardness steel and is suited for indoor tasks as well as being the ideal outdoor companion.  Always ready at hand for any challenge.  Big or small, this beauty can fill the bill.
    Speaking of ideal outdoor companion, Dana is writing to me again.  She is looking pretty good too.  I haven't peeked at any of her 'nothing to the imagination photos yet.'  By now she should know what I appreciate in a woman is more than cute photos.  I want a woman who can come out on the porch with shorts and bare feet.  Hand me some sweet tea and flop down in a chair while saying those three words.  "Smurf, it's hot." 
     I can tell her Dad jokes and she can roll her eyes and groan.  I wonder if she can run a weed whacker?  Best wishes.  G

That's a gorgeous Mechanic, Surge. I've wanted one of those for a long time and I got one but unfortunately it's in the worst shape I've ever seen a SAK and am attempting to return it now but I'm not very hopeful about it... The can opener is bent like 20-30° somehow ??? I had no idea that's what poison ivy looks like, Gary! I have a bunch of that in my backyard here! Here's a three-layer I've really been enjoying recently and carrying around. I think I would have preferred it with the grippier, green nylon(?) that the 108mms are famous for, but I don't mind the faux stag. I love the reamer/awl on this thing more than any one on any SAK I've ever owned. The reamer/awl is an absolute monster and I wish the modern 111mm models had the same one.

   This nasty plant looks different, depending on where it is.  When it is little, it might have coppery, shiny looking leaves.  When it is huge, the leaves might be a little fuzzy looking and it gets big enough to have big hairy cable like vines and go all the way up high trees.  Might have berries. 
    Unfortunately dogs never learn the 'Leaves in three, let it be' warning.  They will walk right in it and get the oily resin on their fur.  Then when you touch your dog.... bad news.  The itchy blisters will show up in a few days.  Might get worse and wider.  Might not do anything the first time or two you are exposed.  Water doesn't really remove the resin either.

  I think there is more misinformation about poison ivy than almost any other plant.  I took a photo of another similar vine.  Five leaflets instead of three on this vine.  Grows in the same places and maybe alongside poison ivy.  Virginia Creeper.  Not dangerous.  The little whitish specks are dried up petals from wild rose.  Not part of the Creeper.  Best wishes.  G

That's not a bad idea. I have a few SAKs that could use a spa day(/week/month...). Anyways, I've never actually sent a SAK for service and have always wanted to. So I guess it's time. Here's another three-layer along with its modern counterpart. Does anyone know approximately how old this guy is? There's nothing on the reverse of the blade, tang-stamp-wise.

Editing this to add: Is there any reason I wouldn't want to/shouldn't wash this thing in some warm, soapy water?

Using warm soapy water is a good thing.  Make sure it dries out completely then use a little bit of mineral oil on the joints.

As far as age, I can't make out the tang stamp too well but it doesn't look to say Elinox on it so it's 1975 and newer.  If you can get a closer shot of the tang stamp, we might be able to narrow down the date a bit more.

Also, some of the early models had brass liners like my Pioneer.

Ah okay, thank you, Mr. Cypher. It definitely doesn't say Elinox and it also definitely doesn't have copper liners. Here's a better photo of the tang stamp. Weirdly enough, the full stamp isn't visible when it's completely open... Never seen that before. And here's a photo of the liners, too.

  Do you think my deer had a little rumble tummy?  Poor things.  I wish something would eat the invasive mint species in my yard (purple dead nettle).  It is a diuretic.  I cut a couple of bales of it this week.

    Friend Aztec seems like a busy person anyway.  Lots of other things to attend to.  I looked at the map on my wall.  Let's see.....  Yes, the box will have to go straight downhill all the way to get to Aztec's estate.  My problem is, everything has to go across when I get it.  No gravity assist.

The VA hospital I visit is really good. Aspirin isn't really needed. I've heard nothing but bad about the facility that previously served my area, though.

It's a very good lanyard.  :D

No rush on the box.  You gotta take care of the important things first but I'm looking forward to getting the box and seeing what's in there now.  It's like opening a treasure chest.  Last time I had it, my son thought it was really cool that we shipped this box around with all this cool stuff in it.  Even my wife was impressed.

Work's definitely been keeping me busy as I haven't been able to post as often as I usually do.  But at least there's work to be had.

Both times I had the box before, the first thing I saw sitting right on top of the stack could be a keeper.  Anybody else see it that way?  Lots of generous members playing this game.  I better get around to asking Alan K his mailing address.  I think Aztec already has mine.  I hope the postal employees have all their personal possessions locked safely away from the reach of a horned lagomorph.  Best wishes.  G

   I think about the biggest thing I ever sawed with a SAK was probably 2 inches in diameter.  Took a while too.  Mostly I cut privet that is hanging down in the road and wild rose.  Bigger than 2 inches and up to about 4 get a bow saw generally.  Bigger than that I use a chain saw.  Or hire it out. 
    A few years ago, a small tree bent over into my driveway.  I took a bow saw.  It was on a hill, so I slid down to it and braced one foot on the stump.  I sawed a while, then realized I was standing on an ant hill of big red ants.  That were climbing up my legs and down into my shoes.  I don't remember going back up the bank, but I do remember shucking off my shoes and pants.  They nailed me on my legs, but my feet got it worst.  Cars were going up and down the road at the time and they got to see the show.  And hear it.
