New Bass, New Multitool
on: January 22, 2017, 02:59:23 AM
Howdy!

I've been away for a bit, but have some new stuff that may be worth sharing.  In this post I've got a new multitool that came with a new Gibson bass I got a few weeks back.  As near as I can tell, it looks like this was made by cruztools.  It has several hex wrenches, flat and Philips drivers and a nut driver for the truss rod.  As a multitool lover, this was a nice surprise to go along with my new instrument.

Very nice! I've been looking for something like that for drums, but i've come to the conclusion that all I really need is a drum key since I play jazz, not timpani or marching band percussion

Nice to see another Gibson man.  Best guitar I every owned was a vintage Flying V.  Man I loved that baseball bat neck.

I've seen a lot of guitar/bass tools but I haven't seen that one.  I'll have to look into it.

Here's a little known Def factoid for you, you know,  since no one asked.....

Shortly after high school I was invited to attend the Atlanta School of Music Luthier course, which is very hard to get into.  Unfortunately at the time I had absolutely no money so I didn't go, but who knows?  I could be working for Fender or Gibson today if I had, or more realistically, been fired from either or both of those and building my own custom guitars!  :D

Yeah, I'm definitely a Gibson fanboy.  My dad has a 1954 J-45 that I've been around my entire life, which of course influenced me.  I've had my own 1996 J-45 for almost 20 years now, and now this bass is added to the club.  There is just something about the Gibson quirkiness that appeals to me.

I worked for a luthier for about 6 months until I realized that getting paid in old guitars doesn't really keep your belly full.  Oh well, its definitely fun and I would love to have been able to make a living at it.

That's awesome! :tu:  I actually just bought the Cruztools version this week to keep in my gig bag.

I've got a P bass, so the hex keys handle the truss rod.  Still trying to decide what else to keep in the bag, Squirt ES4 and PST II at the moment.

Thanks!

The only other thing I typically keep tool wise is a pair of diagonal cutters for string changes. I find that covers all I regularly need.
