What i want and what i do not want
on: February 06, 2017, 06:47:51 PM
Read the post where i get bashed about wanting a tool that actually is usefull:

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,65766.msg1255565.html#msg1255565

Well Gerber seems to have read that post, the center drive seems to be very very close to what i am looking for. Now i only have to swallow my pride and go buy a product from a company that i told myself i would never buy from again.

By the way SOG reactor sucks.

I agree, the Center Drive does seem to tick all your boxes. Having said that, nobody was bashing you, literally everyone in that thread gave you sound advice. Knives make poor pry bars, period, and expecting a blade to function as one will just end in disappointment. When you made that post, the Center Drive was (obviously) not around, so members were trying their best to help you identify a tool that met your needs, and temper expectations because there weren't any tools that met your requirements.

Just curious, why didn't you like the Reactor?

It's too bad you didn't care for the Reactor- I rather like it as a small, lightweight tool.  It's like the Leatherman Freestyle, only with multiple functions.

I also have the Center Drive and I quite like it.

The reactor is ok when you want something in your pocket, its not for working, you cant drive a screw with it.

I would like to know about the cutters on the center drive, can you strip a electrical wire with it and can you cut a wire without the usual problems (just bending the wire)

Seems i cant get ahold of it yet in europe, heard something about march.

I have one that is brand new in the box, with the bit set if you are interested.  Send me a private message for details.

As for the Reactor, well, it is designed to be a light duty tool.  You can't expect it to be a serious hard use tool any more than you could expect a Renault Clio to do any serious off roading.  Yeah, it might manage it for a little bit, but it really isn't meant for that. Of course, if you are trying to use the Reactor for serious work then it really isn't the tool's fault if it fails to live up to what you are doing with it.

The Center Drive is a much larger, much more serious multitool.  The cutters will strip wire at least as well as any other cutters, although to be honest when I strip wire it is usually with the blade so I really can't say if it would suit your needs.  The cutter inserts are reasonably sharp for multitool cutters and can be rotated so a new edge is used when they start to wear out.  They have cut just about everything I have put through them, but I have not tried a stranded steel line, which seems to trip every multitool (and many dedicated tools) up.  Here is my review, if it helps:

Thanks for the offer, i am going to wait until it arrive europe, i got hold of a new zilla tool wich i just made a kydex sheath for so i am not in a hurry. The cutters seem promising, the only downside i can see with the center drive is that it might be a bit bulky to drive a screw, still gonna buy one though.
Thanks for the help and a good review.

No problem.

I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts when/if you get one.

I am also a fan of the Zilla and it bothers me that they have discontinued it.
