It will probably be replaced with the New Core! Remember the survey I did?
I haven't been around the site for a while, could you tune me in on this survey.

As for the core and the plastic inserts, I have neve had a problem with them. While I haven't abused my core, I have used it pretty hard and the plastic has never caused a problem. I will say that one time I was doing a test on my core(the test might still be somewhere on this site) I did notice that the tool folded a little easier, but I think that had to do with the platic shrinking slightly due to it being -10 out. The tool might have still been a little looser since then, but I can't say that it is very noticeable. I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't worry about the plastic.

I recently did a LM survey and it said that they were probably going to release a new Core with glove friend implements and a new locking system.

:ahhh Man I can't believe that they would just discontinue it without a similar replacement  But as was said above they will probably bring out an updated model  at least I hope so :( ;) :D :D :D

I'd be up for an improved core if it has actual improvements.

Should be good, they're probably making it more fancier so it contends (internally) with the Charge and (externally) with the Swisstool.

At the moment it's a glorified Blast, and that's no fun at all!

This is causing quite a bit of talk here.

I have a Core, but I really cant believe that this many people are this in love with it.

I have already started saving for the new-generation Charge model!!! :D

This also means that my new TTi and ALX may have to go.

Im not much of a collector, I just like the very new and useful.

Although I do use scissors a lot, I have to agree with Mikko here.  The Core is a heavy duty tool and therefore should have heavy duty implements.  I don't see scissors as being heavy duty.

^^ Agree. The Core is (was) an alternative to the Surge, and for me at least - a better tool.

I hope that any "improvements" will preserve these characteristics - it's one of my most used tools, and I've got a few to choose from!

I used to come here a lot.

Another person in agreement about the scissors here. Besides if you want a scissors, get a micra. The core and micra is one of the best multitool pair ups in my opinion since one tool has what the other one lacks.

it was the only big-size SIMPLE/no-nonsense/no un-necessary parts tool they had left...now it seems that BLAST is the closest to core anymore.and once again im worried of what kind of hyper-cyber-897658 in one tool will replace it.

I like the Core's pliers, I like the Core's drivers and blades, I like the locking system. But one thing I don't like about the Core is how FAT it is. The old Super Tool had the same number of implements but was much thinner, especially up near the pivots by the pliers. Look at the Core...there is about 3mm of unecessary plastic spacer in this area that the Super Tool (and ST200) didn't have.

There's definitely opportunity for improvement on the Core.

Bob is right in some ways. but the size is not really an issue with me. i kinda like having the huge size at work. I can really grip down on stuff and it makes the tool more comfortable to use.

The thinkness of the Core does make it hard to grip some bolts that are in tight areas or almost flush with the surface they are in.

The Powerlock and Supertool are big tools but the handles taper as they get to the pliers.

I've only handled a Powerlock briefly, but from what I can recall that sounds familiar.

Completely agree with your comments about the Core too. It's probably my most used tool when I'm at home (I couldn't EDC something that big), but apart from a bit of wire cutting / stripping, it's the tools in the handles I use probably 90% of the time. I only have small hands, but I don't normally need to grip hard, so it's not a big problem for me.

I hope that there's a worthy replacement for the Core, I like it so much more than the Surge.

I used to come here a lot.

Maybe a cross between the old Super Tool and the Core? Keep the Core's locking mechanism and excellent drivers, but put the darn thing on a diet. Looky how much thicker than necessary it is out near the pliers.

And keep in mind that both models have the same number of tools in their handles! :o

According to Leatherman:

The Charge and Wave upgrade is the same in
both tools - we are strengthening the jaw support tab piece under the
plier head when it is closed.  We have experienced breakage in this area
and are improving it.

The Freestyle is not at all forgotten and we are still working on it.
