The paradox is that democracy and freedom of speach are often overexploited by people that will rush to abolish them, as soon as they will come to power, as they always did in the past. It doesn't matter what their religion, belief system or political doctrine is, they always did it and they always will.

I can't speak for other countries ,but in the uk most of us was brought up with respect for others and morals, these days (not all)it seems to be lacking,me and my family got a bus the other day to go and watch the airshow in Bournemouth beach,parking is a nightmare so bus seemed the best option, OMG what a bunch of smurfs on the bus,if you want to know where it's all going wrong in the uk just get on a bus

The internet is like a road rage.
Your own cocoon, the comfort from your own couch and the world that will read the messages.

That's what I like about this place. We're all in a relatively small community here, surrounded with people with a common interest.
I feel appreciated even though my texts usualy aren't tool related or on topic.
I think (my opinion ) that this place is so lovely because people listen.

Someone who's not interested in a decent conversation won't join here, because they can't listen.
They just talk smurf on YT and act like the tough guy with nothing to back it up, hoping to get some form of attention.

I am (and always was) interested about cultural variations around the globe, be it because of historical time, geography, physical or urban enviroment, nationality, religion etc.
Talking with people on the net tempts me to ask sometimes about their cultural origins (I asked in fact recently somebody if he has Jewish or Hindu roots, because he knew how to cut stones, an art traditionaly strong inside those two cultures), but with fear one might think that had racist motivations (it never has, just trust me).
With so much intolerance in the world, i can't get the info I want.
Do Afroamericans', Asians' and Europeans' immigrants' progenies prefer different knives and tools, or ways to EDC? Such stuff.

You are interested in cultural aspects to EDC? I can give explain the cultural roots of my EDC. I blame my father. If he hadn't read books such as Robinson Crusoe, Treasure island and star wars to me when I was about 4 my pocket might not be infested with all kinds of weird gadgets. I might have even ended as an almost fully functioning adult. 

As for the effect of physical environment, mine makes me carry a saw at all times. All those damn trees...

My story is more boring.
I EDC because of scouts, and I discovered MacGyver because of SAKs, not the other way around.
The knife laws here mean I don't feel comfortable with carrying knives, because I can't, really, legally. Hence my fascination with bladeless mods. 
Physical environment? We have very few Philips screws, mostly pozidriv, so I look for ways to make my SAKs capable of tackling pozidriv screws.

I work in a museum. Today I was working with photographs from the earlier part of the last century. A racial massacre of tens of civilians including women and children. The perpetrators photographed themselves with the stripped bodies while mutilating and setting fire to them. I won't sleep well tonight.

This was many years prior to WWII and the horrors committed there though after the horrors of WWI and the racial hatred and massacres of that war, the racial attitudes which indeed caused that terrible conflict, mostly now forgotten in the shadow of what was to come.

The following is my opinion. Nothing more.

I believe the biggest cover up and lie of the modern age is the idea that anything ever actually changed since those times. I don't believe social conditioning can change the human psyche's propensity towards hatred of those who differ in look, religion, tradition, style or political views. Mastery of such instincts can only come from within. By choice. Denial of that fact is why the experiment had little chance for true success, at best driving the hatred underground to fester. The anonymity of the internet has given a voice to the truth of how little the suppression of hatred has actually succeeded with such an explosion of hate talk and thought for any who differ in opinion. Same basic human intolerance just new clothes, new tools.
