Found your “Perfect knife”?
on: February 24, 2018, 05:20:19 PM
Since getting my Benchmade 940 and the REI exclusive 940-1702 My folding knife buying has pretty much slowed to a halt. I have a few other great knives that I love to carry, but it’s the 940 that has ended up in my pockets everyday since I got it. There are still other knives I want to buy, and will some time in the future, but for now I’m happy with my 940. It’s probably as close to my perfect knife as I will ever get. Has anyone else found that one knife that just seems to click for them?

Justin, I'm a huge fan of the 940.

Small knife with big abilities and so easy to carry as an EDC. Osborne hit a homerun with this design. I'm not sure an EDC could get any better for me.

But......

Completely agree Nix, it’s such a great size and shape for everyday and so light and slim. Excellent everyday blade. And very fair point, pics will follow soon

Top 943 in S30V
Bottom 940 in 154cm

I like the long California clip of the 943, but the reverse tanto clip of the 940 is the way to go here. If the 940 looks bright along the edge, that's because it get polished to a razor's edge and cuts like a laser.

Great choices, those BM are nice, I had them.

I always carry two knives nowadays, one for work and one for war, Black Talon & Black Cat are as close to perfect as I could find at this point.

Helluva EDC!

That Talon is a fearsome knife. For self-defense purposes, what kind of grip would you use with that?

the 940 and Grip are the two most often recommended Benchmades out there and have loyal fan bases for a reason.  ::)
It sure ticks most of the boxes for a good EDC knife and the fact that's been so long out there, unchanged, and still a nº1 seller gives you clues about the excellence of its design.

Glad you enjoy yours, and that it lives up to the hype. :tu:

Mine would probably be the Spyderco Pacific Salt, since my first one 4 years ago it's been a constant favorite and most carried in my pocket, in one of its many variations, and I just can't substitute it for any other OHO folder and feel as confident and satisfied  :salute:

My toys:

MTs: Surge (2x), Skeletool CX, Rebar, Blast, Fuse, Micra, Squirt (3x), Wave, Crunch, Mini, Spirit (2x), Pro Scout, MP700 (2x), Diesel, Powerlock, PowerPlier (2x), PocketPowerPlier, Blacktip , ST6 (2x), 5WR, A100

SAKs: Bantam, Executive, Ambassador, Minichamp, Classic Alox, Champion, Farmer, Explorer, Swisschamp, Golf Tool, Wenger Champ, EVO 52, Pocket Tool Chest

And a left handed PM2 handle with a Stretch2 blade would probably keep me happy.

Yeah the compression lock on mine is set for a right hand. Last years catalog mentioned a mirror image version for lefties.

Interesting.

I find that it's not much of an issue to close the PM2 with my left hand.

Now the Spyderco Military..........

Now the Spyderco Military..........

I can do it too but it isn't being held as securely like when it's done right handed.

Military I haven't tried, not huge on liner locks and lack of funds. If I ever come across a lefty Military I would consider splashing out.

This one I carried for a couple of years and found it to be a great all around knife.Light;easy to open(an early quick open feature)and tools that could be easily accessed. The only downside(to me anyway)was the partially serrated blade. If you didn't like the pocket clip;you could remove it and use the carabiner clip that folded out. A local store had them on sale for $11. I bought two.Forgot the model:Leatherman C303

I have carried a Victorinox Swiss Champ since they first came out, but, as far as a dedicated knife, this Buck 110 Custom with S30V blade is my favorite.

That reverse tanto blade on the 940 and the knife design just look so right. Ive held one and it was excellent, although maybe just a little light for my taste I can absoloutley tell why this would be a contender for #1 edc knife among knife enthusiasts.

I'm not sure if I've seen the one with the drop point  very cool too.

I'm not so sure I'm able at this point to admit that I've found the one. But it is between 2.

Also I can't wait to drool over people Sebenza pictures lol  ;)

The talon works with every kind of grips but I prefer saber grip as it is the most natural to me to have a film secure hold. Plus the tip would line up with my thumb so I can give an accurate and powerful thrust

I have many knives and the closest I get to my perfection is this Spyderco Delica in G10.
A mix of nostalgia, size, feel and materials.
I find the PM2, Chaparral, Pacific Salt and Military to be awesome in different tasks and use settings but the little Delica does nearly everything well. I’d like a steel upgrade although VG10 works ok for EDC tasks.
I might buy a s30v one and try a blade swap.
Or just leave it as it is and sharpen more often like I do now.

I love my Böker Burke Thorn, but quite frankly, the closest I've got to an ideal EDC knife is probably the Vic Spartan. That's what I actually carry most days. :pommel:

VG10 steel and G10 scales are perfect for me. I prefer the slightly larger Endura.but the Centofante is very nice too. I removed the pocket clips, I carry these in a belt sheath.

"Perfect Knife".  So I'll give you the MTO answer.  Everyday knife ( excluding work ) would be my new to me Dragonfly.   The knife is a perfect size for things I use a knife for.  I've only had it a short time but in that time I've found how I cary it ( shirt pocket ) is so convenient.  I do like the steel so far and so far no need to do anything to it.  Mine is ZDP

Everyday work knife.  I use a Delica in g10 with vg10.  While sufficient steel I rather have a steel that keeps its edge longer.  I run either a fully serrated or waved PE version.  They have been my go to now when I carry a dedicated knife.  I do carry a Charge TTi and the s30v blade sees a lot of use.

Offday knife.  If I am staying around the home I'm pocketing my Dragonfly these days.

If I'm off for a short trek I'm pocketing my SAK Hunter.

I can go on and on.  There is not one knife so far that I'd cal my perfect knife that I'd get rid of all my knives for.  One that I'd carry exclusively from today on and forgo all others.

I'll say for now tho, my Dragonfly has ticked a lot of boxes.  NIX  :salute:
