First EKA
on: April 08, 2018, 09:12:00 PM
Found this one on eBay for $4.50 shipped, pretty much free counting in shipping. I decided at that price, I didn't even need to think about it. Seller listed as "Flygt Multi Tool 3-1 Mini Pocket"  but without even looking at the tang stamp, I knew it was an EKA pattern (and later confirmed by looking at the tang stamp. Flygt is a Swedish pump manufacturer that was sold by its owners to ITT Corporation (a US company) in the late 1960s. Xylem was formed in 2011 as a spinoff from ITT (apparently not related to the technical college).  Given they expanded the product range in the 1970s, I suspect that's a good ballpark estimate for dating the knife.

I hear EKA knives are excellent, so I have high expectations for this. With a blade, bottle opener/screwdriver (which given the size of the knife overall, should fit standard No. 2 Phillips) and nail file, it should be a good EDC pattern paired with a Sebertool or similar.

Congratulations on the good buy Cody! :like: :tu: :tu:

It will be a great edc knife.

I have a number of the larger EKA's and they are good knives.

Looks quite nifty. I had one EKA. Forget the number designation (i.e. Eka 8, Eka 11, whatever). The blade was excellent, from the edge retention, to the full flat grind. The handle was super disappointing. It was like brittle cellidor, and it cracked after a couple months. I massaged in a bunch of goop (rubbery super glue, works great with SAK scales that fall off), but the knife just never became a favorite. Not sure if it's at the bottom of my knife box, or if I ultimately junked it.
