:like:  When the big serrated blade on the Surge is deployed, nothing to be cut stands a chance! That is actually my favorite blade on the tool.

Day 1

My carry for the challenge

Today's usage was repairing the blinds in my new office. New bottom weights and connecting chain. The little clips on the chain were too small  for my fingers but the Surge pliers were good for it.

Unfortunately I pulled 2 blinds down and their hangars broke, so now I need some new ones for those

Wspeed gave me the green light to do an in-challenge GAW, and I wanted to do it early so that the prize might show up during the challenge and we could all see some in-use, action photos.

Here is the prize, a sheath I got before I even got my Surge:

This is a new-in-bag leather sheath from American Bench Craft, designed for the Surge. The leather is very nice and the hardware looks outstanding. One of the cool things about this sheath is that it is made with rivets and no stitching. I'm a big fan of stitching, but this rivet-only design looked good to me.

I think that with a little oil and use, this will turn out to be an outstanding sheath for a Surge. (I wasn't crazy about the stock sheath that came with new Surges, and wanted something a bit more....leather.)

Here are the rules for the GAW:

1. The GAW is only open to MTo members who participate in this challenge for at least seven (7) days.
2. To enter, please add you name to the list below, and include both your favorite feature of the Surge and least favorite feature of the Surge.
-- e.g. Nix -- Favorite: Heavy-duty pliers head with replaceable cutter, Least-favorite: a bit heavy and bulky for my EDC
3. I will draw a winner from the list, at random, on day 08 and ship the sheath out ASAP.
4. The winner agrees to post photos of the sheath being used with a Surge. The more the merrier.
5. Participants in the challenge agree to reassess their favorite and least-favorite Surge features at the end of the 30-day challenge period (even if only doing a 7-day challenge).

OK, that should do it. If there are questions, post a reply to this post or PM me. Game on!

I know some guys like a serrated blade, but I agree with you. I only need one blade and a PE blade is easier to keep sharp.   :tu:

What would a challenge be without cutting yourself

Cut my thumb this morning when nano oiling the pivots and working things back and forth.  It's not a good idea to put your thumb in the way of the PE blade.  Only a shallow cut but still a numpty mistake
