I like how your horn has that nice dark groove in the second photo. Adds a lot of character to the knife. Sorta like on mine

Thanks guys  :hatsoff:

I really need me to get some oil to care for it. Any suggestions what i should get that is food safe?

I use Ballistol since the 80's and made the best experiences.
It never "gunked-up" or solidified on me and is food safe too :salute:

Day 22

GEC 44 hanging out with my Case John Deree bright green bone Canoe.  I was thinking maybe to give those 'colorful' Case knives a try to see how I like them, still haven't really warm up to the vibrant color...and kinda prefer the more traditional material for a traditional knife.

Day 22

Early morning delivery from Marks and Spencer. Like all expats we love our M&S clothes and they're doing free delivery on orders over a certain amount. No VAT or import to pay either so it's cheaper than buying the stuff in England and only takes a week to arrive with fully tracked delivery.

(Image removed from quote.)

The blade slid straight through the packaging but it was only then that I realised that there was no internal packaging at all, I almost sliced straight into my wife's new t-shirt and some new socks for my daughter. I was within mm's of being in trouble. Gulp!

That's one minus with a clip blade. The point catches on stuff in a way that a spear doesn't. Especially material from my experience.

That's one reason for me to do the challenge as a kind of newbie to trads. Exploring the different usecases for all those different blade profiles  :tu:

Oh, making Humus. I thought you were just opening a lemonade stand in vampire country.

Day 21
Been to a lovely wake earlier today. Saw some people I haven't seen in years. The son of the woman whose life we were commemorating wanted a beer and needed an opener. Sadly, there's no way to open a beer with most traditional knives, so I brought the Swiss Champ out for the assist.

I used the corkscrew on my sak to open a beer bottle recently. Worked quite well. I realise that isn't relevant but just wanted to sell some one. :D

I heard good thinks about Ballistol, and remember people also put it on organic handle material too, so it should be pretty decent.  Mineral oil is probably a viable choice too, but I did hear it would go bad in a long run.

I used Froglube, which is FDA approved, rust proof and smells good too.  Essentially it is just coconut oil, I remembered it was once advertised for gun maintenance too, but recently did read about people complaining it gunking up, so YMMV.
Hey, Cody.  What do you mean by them not installing the right blades?  You mean Vic USA would install blades at random?(like an electrician blade instead of the small blade?)

Because Vic hasn't made clip point pen blades in nearly 5 decades, for sure it would get a spear point pen as opposed to clip.   But, I guess it's worth a shot if I mark the knife as sentimental. I like to get a fairly full box when I send SAKs off to Vic on warranty. UPS shipping isn't cheap, and not all post offices are friendly to knives being sent. Had one not a problem with anything, including a large OHO Gerber; yet the other make a fuss over a couple SAKs.
