I've got to get myself a few of those Russells. Not at all expensive, and quality knives. I have this one, from the 1880s or 1890s that's still going strong. It's an original, from over a century before Dexter bought the brand. Described as a "Wallpaper hanging knife" it has what I think are chestnut scales and a brass ferrule. Holds a great edge. I only use it as a desk knife; largely for package opening and picture framing work. Got it in a lot; really didn't pay attention to what it was, exactly; only wanting a folding fillet knife in the lot. The fillet knife was junk--this one is in good shape for its age. A little plaster on the handles is the only real defect.

Day 25. Switched back to the LT because I didn't feel like I needed a heavy knife. Since what I laid out to be put in yesterday was for a line that was resurveyed today (we've had an ongoing dispute with this property line that has been going on for a couple years; the surveyor that started this whole dispute by changing everything from a foot to a yard everywhere,  has a bad reputation--he's nearly lost his license twice; or so I've been told by other surveyors I knew) and had rebar put in; it will need to be fenced off later. Today I cut weeds and did some other assorted yardwork, mostly.

So far, this challenge has got me into thinking one thing--I need to try out the Slim Selects. In shorts, especially those made out of a performance fabric, knives like to slip out. I usually carry a knife clipped to the waistband around the house since big ones don't like cheap cotton shorts.

I like that wallpaper knife.  :like:

I made a kitchen knife from a 'Green River' knife. Good HC steel.  :tu:

Gettin ready. Plus I'll be in northwestern Colorado in the middle of nowhere in mid Sept and it can get cold up here especially at night. I'd rather have warm clothes and not need them than to get caught in bad cold front unprepared and be freezing.   :D

Nice !

Do you have another pic to make up for yesterday    :pok:

Can't even remember this morning, Steve, much less yesterday. Guess I was too excited about the new Cadet.
Hopefully my CASE model 75 will make up for my absentmindedness.

:like:  I have a few Case Stockman patterns now (47, 33, 87), but not the big 75 quite yet. I find it's the perfect size for getting heavy work done.

Looking forward to see what you can make of it  :salute:

Getting some of the grind marks out, but there's no way to get them all.  I did find out, from a friend in Brazil, that it's called a "Pica Fumo" or tobacco pricker  from the 1980s.

Day 26.

CPM 154 isn't quite as stainless as I would like to be honest. Not bad but you can't just rinse it off and chuck it into your pocket like a SAK. There were a couple of slight spots of tarnish but it seems that the Buck doesn't like having a B-A-T-H and bit me. Twice. It's so sharp I hadn't even realised it had happened until the second time.

Day: 25.5

The Sodbuster also got used to open a parcel from Ireland today...... :mail:

McStitchy has issued me a personal challenge to "put some patina" on an Opinel.  Apparently he got tired of hearing me go on and on about how great all of the Opinels have been looking. And, he's right, I've been a wee bit jealous of some of the older ones with some good patina on them.

His personal challenge came with a Nº 7:

(Image removed from quote.)

Thanks, Matt!   :ahhh

Now, I'm usually a strict 'one tool for one challenge' kind of MTo member. However, I feel that I've learned enough in the first three weeks of using the Sodbuster that switching tools at this point won't be an issue. And, I'm not going to duck a personal challenge from a one-handed man.

So, I will be switching to full-time Opinel Nº 7 use for the rest of the challenge.   We only have 5 days left, but that may be enough time to start a decent patina.......  :D

GEC 15, I wish I knew there is chain arrangement when I was young, I remembered how I used to check my pocket everytime when I was pocket carrying my knife, and this could easily be passed as a keychain.

Day 26
I couldn't resist picking up the Case Barlow this morning  :D I think I've explored the abilities of the Mini Trappers clip and wharncliffe quite well.

The Barlow's main blade helped opening a hole in a new sock for my thumb splint... multitool thingy.

It worked well but I think the pen blade would have been more appropriate for this.
