Day 23
Had an inventory of our battery lights for work and some Christmas lights. SAKs opened screws and clips, removed batteries scraped some residue and so on.

Switched the Parachutist for my Outrider to add some variety since the new lot is still delayed.

The screwdriver is as good as I remember and the knife is quite nostalgic to me because it is my very first SAK.

Well that makes me even more anxious about receiving the Safari Hunter.
Nice - will be getting ours out next week!

I'll have to put up a pic of my Day 23 knife later...but considering Sos's other thread, I can tell you is isn't a RED one.  ;) :D

....

I like how this Challenge and the decision to 30-day/30-knife rotate has made me *think* about what I carry and why I choose and prefer various knifes and configurations. Thanks to *all* the co-challengers for making it fun and interesting too.   :tu:

I'm naturally a cautious person, and do carry my Spirit as backup and had my SwissChamp as backup in the 111mm challenge when abroad, because I really didn't have other tools readily available.

This challenge my established carry of CT41 isn't so much diminished,  but when I've thought about it most of the time I could make do with Climber.

But I appreciate the occasional utility enough to carry larger knives, and as a collector I just find it enjoyable and a bit expected to have a large variety of tools in hand. CT41 also fits my coin pocket just as well so why not carry it?

:iagree: spot on Ivo!

Tested the Wenger cap lifter today, good for its size as claimed.

Back to OC today. I have to say, these Alox models are nice. I need to carry my regular Pioneers a little more.

I used the Champion's saw today to cut down some Brazilian Pepper. I couldn't just use lopping shears because it was growing through the chain link fence. I hate this weed. It is nearly impossible to get rid of it. :ahhh

Can't say that about my first SAK. 'Til rust do we part.  :salute:

Day 24

Wenger 82mm  This is a vintage Wenger 82mm which has a clip point small blade, old style can opener, 4 turn fluted corkscrew, exposed awl and rivets.  The closest picture I found on Sakwiki has a bail, and the owner dated it around 60s, and that same bailed version was featured on catalog in 63.  But by 70s, I no longer see any metal shield offered in the catalog.  Not sure I could date it around 1960s, but that's my best guess.

That is a really cool knife that I have never seen before and would have loved when I was doing alot of long distance cycling.

The screwing portion of the hex wrench is part of the chain tool.  The length helps give leverage for whichever you are using.  The removable wrench is also a spoke wrench and tire iron.  The shape of the combo tool is probably so it can double as a second tire iron as well.

Thank you for the detail writeup!  Always love to learn more about the piece, and best learn from the users whom actually know the tool!

Ivo - that’s a beauty! :like: Comis - good to actually see one of those - tried to get one in the past, but the price was out of my reach! Doubt I’d have stuck it in my bike pouch as it would be too expensive to use!

Day 23

Using the awl on the Master Craftsman/Astronaut to cut the seal on a Dremel extension which should make it easier to manipulate for the next mods I have in mind.....

To be honest, I am just learning as I go.  There exist many great collectors on this forum, whom know the true intrinsic value of those tools they collect and I have nothing but the upmost respect for those folks' knowledge and patient.  And I think half the fun was spotting a great deal when everyone has overlooked it, and it is much easier said than done.
