Day 2.

This challenge really is a breeze to me, as I typically change up what I"ve got based on what I'm wearing, where I'm going, and what I've got to do. And farm work, in this case major repair due to a trespassing incident which completely wrecked the fence,  typically calls for a bigger, often one-hand opening knife which has to have a locking blade.

Today, I brought out a 2019 Buck Bantam BLW. This is an inexpensive, American-made knife that gets it done. Lockback, so no issue with gloves like the previous knife. And it weighs less than half what the Krait does. Tractor Supply had a bundle for Christmas-time for $20 that included the Bantam and Nano Bantam--and given the total for both at my local cutlery store was $35, I bought it immediately when I saw it in October (as opposed to waiting until they typically go on sale in January--and my TSC sold out of these before Christmas). I want to try the BHW? I think it is that is 3 3/4' closed, as well as the big 5" closed Bantam.

Nice! I have the 70 myself. It's a pretty good pattern, but given the #70 is pretty rare too, it rarely leaves the house.

Makes me wonder why Buck Knifes are not that popular here

Oh, unlike Fuzz, I'm wearing pants today. But they are the kind with an integrated belt, as such it's nigh impossible to get the sheath on the belt. I've just stashed the 102 in my pocket, sheath and awl.   :tu:

Aye, they're a bugger those...

Day 2: Traditional and regional, awl wrapped into one. A portuguese corta-e-pica (cut and stab). It's the only tool people needed in the fields or while taking care of cattle, in the plains.

Unlike the original (which actually got me into Benchmade; when I saw a buddy of mine who EDC'd one), this one,  instead of a button, is fired using the AXIS lock, correct?

Nope. Has a button just like the original AFO. The Adamas auto opens with the Axis lock.

DAY 2

When you look at all these knives.. you really see just how much knives have become both art and function at the same time.  Lovin' these pics!  On day 2 I'm posting a pic of my Kabar BK16.   I modified the scales a little and I always remove coatings off of the blades and do my own patina.
They say the pen is mightier than the sword.   However... there is a dead guy here with a Bic in his hand and a Samurai walking away.

Thanks glenfiddich, David, comis, Rizio, Steve and Borg

:iagree: :like:

Besides the "GS" emblem, I am curious is there any difference in functionality/appearance between Girl Scout or Boy Scout knives?

Functionality is usually the same between the different Scout knives when it comes to the older ones with the Camp pattern of blade, awl, caplifter, and can opener.  The appearance really depended on what company manufactured the knife and when.  As far as older knives, Camilus was the big manufacturer of the Boy Scout knives and Utica was the primary for Girl Scouts.  There were some other companies that did a few runs over the years, but those were the main ones.

Nowadays, the Boy Scouts have Victorinox, Buck, Case, etc making various styles, while Swiza is the only manufacturer of Girl Scout knives and that just started within the last year.   Since 1980, other than a few variations of the SAK classic, there has only been very limited (5 I know of) single runs of decent Girl Scouts knives, with poor quality “no name” ones in between.  The limited availability of quality Girl Scout knives is why I will sometimes buy reasonably priced ones that I find on ebay and then give away if I find out about someone looking for one for a young girl.

Great collection, Sos24! Lovely handles, especially the second from the left - also what’s the tool next to the awl?

The tool is an older style can opener

DAY 2: I started day 1 with a SAK that just arrived via UPS.  Today I have what I think was my first knife.  This is a 50 year old Ulster official Boy Scout knife in the traditional scout-utility pattern.  The faux stag scales are in great condition, the bail long since lost (it wasn't attached very well to begin with).  I didn't know much about knives 50 years ago, and this should have been returned, the back spring for the blade provides no snap at all, and the blade can hit the spring in one spot when closed.  Despite that, it's served me for 5 decades.

Nice looking knife even if it is a little worse for wear.

DAY 2

Just another knife  :hatsoff:
Gorgeous knife

Love that green one too  :tu:

:agree: I absolutely love Steve’s green Utica penknife

Day 2 Carl Andersson Mora and Lockwood brothers tree marker

That tree marker is an interesting looking knife

That is marvelous!

Shame there aren't more GSA knives from Vic or Buck. Have you contacted Buck about that? Seems like the kind of thing Buck might like to be involved in. Although, it would require the GSA to get behind the idea of a Buck GSA knife.

Of course, these days and times, it's a wonder any scout is allowed to handle a knife.....

Pretty cool, I think I might have seen this brand somewhere...where did you get it?  :pok:

Day 02:

Today's carry is my most recent acquisition, a Buck 102. I gave my last 'Woodsman' away....silly me. Replaced it with this exclusive from Copper & Clad:

(Image removed from quote.)

The Woodsman is a real gem, and, has proven itself to be an excellent Bird & Trout type knife as well as a nice hiking companion. This one has already served to clip a few herbs and open a box of tea. It's iced tea weather here!
That's a nice edition of a Buck fixie, didn't know it actually exist till today! :like:

Day 2

A rare Camillus #71 Cattle punch and a nice Utica penknife.

(Image removed from quote.)

That awl is definitely unique and eye catching!  Nice pair! :tu:
