Each has pros and cons but if you had to pick one which one would you go for? :)

Spirit X

For me the biggest area where the Spirit wins over the Wave is that all tools are accessible from the outside.  I am also a big fan of the chisel tool on the Spirit, which the Wave does not really have a comparable tool.

With those as my options, I'd go with the Wave+. I have what I believe is a second-generation Wave, and I like it. Plus, my next PB multi will be black oxide. Victorinox charges a pretty steep premium for that finish.

If I carry MT only - the Wave, his blades are better and one hand operated.
If I also carry a knife - I lean towards the Spirit.

Spirit X.
I also have a first generation Wave. The wave is great, but compared to the Spirit it's like Volkswagen vs Porsche.
The Spirit will not rust, it's higher quality, it has tools the wave can only dream of (chisel, awl) and that weird butter blade is evil!
Should you need one handed opening blades, there is that option available. Pocket clip as well.

I much prefer the Wave platform to the Spirit

I rather have the blades OHO (the new Spirit option doesnt appeal to me) and the bit driver is a better fit for me as well :tu:

To me the Spirit is not a Porsche either  I have carried it and tried to like it but just doesn't work well for me in real world applications :dunno:

I was a bigger Swisstool fan over the Spirit but that changed one day.  Its not so easy for me to say which.  Long time fan of the Wave but there are some things I do really like about the Spirit.  That chisel is so good.  That long phillips is also very good.  Ergos cannot be understated.  I used a Charge for work and carried a Swisstool as back up.  I changed to the Spirit then added a Surge for back up.

I'm going with Wave to answer the question posed.  I'd rather a Charge TTi simple due to the S30V blade.

The Spirit...has tools the wave can only dream of (chisel, awl).
Lack of an awl is one thing that could potentially steer me away from the Wave. And now that I think about it...the Spirit X has a slight curve to its handles. Though I'm sure Victorinox had good reason for that design, the handles not sitting perfectly flush against one another just bugs me.

The Spirit has better scissors and the chisel tool but if I can only carry one item I might choose the wave because of the OHO blades.  When I carry the Spirit I usually carry a separate pocket knife just to have an easily accessible blade.  I prefer the Spirit and have carried one for years.

That awl is good.  Because many mod its easy to mod your perfect Wave/Charge.

I used to have a Swisstool and I used to have a Spirit. I get along better with Leatherman tools as they work better in a work environment.

I would take the Wave (any version) over a lot of tools, but not the Spirit.  That Spirit is just a slice of awesomeness, and if I had to pick one tool for th erest of my life, that would be it.

I think it's due to ergonomics. When I first saw the Spirit series, I too thought it was a weird/different/unusual/ unique design ( and yes, in that order) but, once I handled it, I found out that it is the most comfortable pair of handles in pliers based multitools, bar none; if fills the hand efficiently, without hot spots or awkwardness, and allows me to use it "all day long" if needed to be. I do enjoy my Waves, and use them regularly ( more so than my Spirits) but, for comfort, the Spirit wins hands down. Now, if leatherman would bring a "curved handles Wave"...

ooh, and I voted Wave!...

Am I biased? No, why would I :D

Spirit any day. It offers more, in a slimmer package. Not a fan of the proprietary bits of the Wave. In general prefer MT + L-wrench/bits over MT with bit holder, I think it is more versatile without sacrificing too much in bulk. Also, I'm an office guy and my soft hands hurt when I use the Wave :P
There are some LMs I occasionally carry. The Charge (it's so pretty with blue anodized scales) and the Signal (I like the "hammer" quite a lot and it makes all my problems look like nails :D)
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Spirit above all.
Wave/Charge/Surge have better knives.
In every other aspect Spirit tools are better, so is fit and finish and tolerances and precision.
Century proved SAK tools, what can be better?

Any multitool without at least a one-hand opening blade is just way behind the times.  I know there is a new Spirit with a one-hand opening blade, but it's a horrible implementation of OHO.

I prefer the Victorinox Spirit because it is more comfortable, has all tools on the outside, and a better scissors.   The Wave has pinched my palm when using the pliers.
