Wave 25th with scars already?
on: December 31, 2008, 09:31:42 PM
I mean, I don´t mind to cause some or many scratches to any tool due to the use or abuse but scratches just for opening and closing them? sadly it happened to the Wave 25th anniversary...totally sucks

Was it on the pliers? If it is I have that same problem on my Wave.

Man that's a bummer :ahhh I think my reg Wave does something similar but I don't think that the scratches are that bad

Of course  that may be because it a reg version and I just haven't paid that much attention :-\

A little scratching is common on my tools, but that looks pretty severe tanker. Can you see what's dragging against it?

I used to come here a lot.

I guess it has something to do with the bright finish? looking closely and comparing with my old Wave the space between the pliers and the handles is almost zero in the new Wave. My old one doesn´t have a hint of a scratch.
If a fraction of anything get caught in between when you open or close the tool I guess this is inevitable but as I said I don´t know if the finishing in this Anniversary Wave is a fraction thicker than regular Waves? may be...
I talked with a friend and yes he told me his Surge has some scratches in the same place but they are minimal, he said.
To be honest now that I look the pics again I would say first pic is more like the real thing, the second pic looks worse than it is, may be because of the light, the macro, etc, BUT they are there, the first scars of a warrior...that hasn´t been in a battle yet

What the heck caused those?

Drag marks from folding/unfolding should be concentric to the large pivot screw. Yet in the second picture most of the marks are not. As a matter of fact, they aren't concentric to anything.....? What motion could have caused those? ???
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Thats too bad about those scuff marks.  I would check it out closely and try to determine whats rubbing against it upon opening or closing the tool.  I Just bought the Surge and whilst there aren't any scuffing on the pliers it did jam up a couple of times and like it says in the review it does rattle while in the closed position.  Once open it is solid!
I have an Original Tuper tool also and comparing it to the Surge I have to say a case of simpler sometimes is better.  Even though the Surge is new, that Super Tool is very smooth and what I would consider a more reliable tool/mechanism even though hard on the hands when really squeezing down on something.   I am not surprised with the the way the new crop of tools that are out sometimes behave.  Very nice to access tools and usually with one hand but at a cost?
I might be tempted to call Leatherman and see if they might have some insight as to what might be dragging/scuffing on your pliers.
