Taking a dump on IE
on: January 03, 2009, 08:45:51 PM
I've had it with internet explorer and all the bugs in it. From now on it's Firefox only. I've had more problems with it not letting me click, drag and drop, and many of the simple stuff you use everyday.

So  ***flush*** goes IE

Hello Firefox.

BTW i was using IE 8 beta but 7 was just as frustrating.

I use Opera. Used it for almost 6 months now and very happy with it
There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

you gave IE a chance :o? thats a no-no in my book i guess the main problem with IE is when you start using it, if you just let him there installed and never run it it works actually great :D

I am a happy Firefox user for years now. IE only gets opened when I have a problem opening up a website built for IE only.

I am fixing to build me a Linux box and start using it more. I am fed up with Microsoft and all their products. Too bad they have a near monopoly. Otherwise I would not use any of there products. >:(

I have used IE for as long as I can remember and have never had a single problem with it.

Why does everyone not like it?

Why does everyone not like it?

For one it doesn't follow the standard for web coding, it has its own quirks that people have to cater for when coding a web page. Where as other browsers will render what is written, IE will do its own thing :(

Because it's *?!-%%*

If you generally just surf forums and amazon etc, then IE will likely be fine for you. If you start tinkering with HTML, or web site development at all, you'll see the flaws quite quickly.

The other advantage that Firefox (and the other browsers) have over IE, is that they are exploited less often. Something like 90% of browser hijacks and malware are targeted at IE and it's many security holes.

So basically it bothers web site designers mostly then.  It's fine for me though.  :D

IE7 is so slow (at least for me) when compared with FF, tabs take an age to open and i use tabs heavily. FF has thousands of addons available that make the surfing experience more enjoyable. Case in point: surfing on a tablet PC, IE is pants for this especially for me being left handed as the scroll bar is on the wrong side of the screen, FF has a couple of great addons that mean i can have the scroll bar on the left side can open links in tabs by "dragging" links andi  can scroll just by dragging the page around (like Adobe Acrobat).

The only problem I got with IE is that it's so darn slow. Otherwise it's great.

Ive been toying around today customizing my firefox with add ons. I went with a retro look like my old netscape browser for now. I slapped a calculator and thunderbird link into the toolbar.

I've been using Firefox almost since it's inception and I love it. I only use IE for updates and whenever a page gets fudged up in FF.

On this subject, I was today reading an article by the Associated Press on the recent hacking attacks on the Twitter site, among a few others. This apparently involved a bit of mirth, a bit of mischief and (on a more serious note)a bit of personal information lifting. What's funny is that the writer of the AP article (a Firefox user, I suspect) makes note of the fact that the false diversions put up did not fool Firefox, which warned its users of the forgeries and detours. Internet Explorer users, the article makes plain, went in unawares of the ruse. I thought it odd that the writer mentioned this, but as an unabashed Firefox fan I was elated!

This rule seems to hold good for most "risks" on the internet, i.e. Firefox is "safer" than IE. I'm still not sure however, if people target IE because it is so much more widely used, or whether it genuinely is a better program.

It is true that Microsoft seem to adopt many of Firefox's features, so maybe it is simply more secure

I used to come here a lot.

Ugh, no, really, Firefox is not a bit more secure.

As such, I used Firefox for the tabs until I.E. finally integrated them.

Then I went back to I.E.

As for the rest of it, it's a judge as you will kind of thing.

Being surf-smart is the best protection... ie, not clicking on every popup or trying to close them by their (often) false window "X" close button. I've thought of going back to IE but with the customization FF allows it's an easier, more manageable surfing experience for me.

Well put! I've read that one reason Firefox is at least "perceived" as being more secure is that since IE is older and more-used, there are more attacks and threats geared towards it. Perhaps as Firefox grows in popularity, it too will develop Achilles' heels...

What really won me over to Firefox is the community-like aura of its developers and the seemingly altruistic nature of its organization.  The personalization of Firefox through its add-ons is my favorite bit-much like being able to add implements to your multitool to make it more useful to you. AdBlocker and CoolIris Preview, and Download Statusbar are worth their weight in gold!

Regards, Bill.
