Benchmade Bone Collector--Model?
on: September 05, 2020, 11:10:08 PM
I have long been wanting to add a second Benchmade to my collection, but they are expensive. I like the AXIS Lock

This was listed used on the store of another forum for $50. I thought that since it had a blade close to the Sheepsfoot I wanted to add to my custom model, D2 Tool Steel, and G-10 handles it was a steal. I decided to not think twice, and snagged it as quick as I could.  I think this is a Bone Collector Mini,  but I'm not sure.

From what I'm seeing, the Bone Collector series of knives was discontinued in 2014 or 2015. This model is based on the Mini Presidio, but with a drop-point D2 blade with Spyderco-style opener.  But, it's a big boy at 4.34" closed. Luckily, at 3.2" the blade is still legal where I live.

Do fakes exist?

Sadly, yes.  Benchmades are expensive enough to be worth counterfeiting.  It's enough of an issue that Benchmade specifically addresses on their website how they will handle suspected counterfeit knives that are sent in for warranty work:

Generally, the best defense against getting a counterfeit knife is buying from a reputable dealer or directly from the manufacturer, but this isn't always possible, especially when in the market for used and or discontinued knives.

It definitely looks like the model linked below to me, though I would ask you to double-check the measurements you posted, as they are somewhat close but not exactly what is published for this model.

Other than the price (I agree $50 was a good deal assuming it's a legitimate Benchmade), what makes you suspect it may be counterfeit?

Simply because they are out there, and it seems the Chinese fake a TON of different high-end knives these days.

But, I did a little more digging, and found there is no such thing as a fake Benchmade Bone Collector. I guess because the series was never that popular to begin with.

I've had luck, however. I have an Emerson Mini CQC-7 I bought in really rough used shape for $30. I thought with how easily the screws stripped, and how the blade seemed soft for 154CM, it was surely fake, but I was told by Emerson that it was, in fact, authentic.,
