Outrider helps with dinner prep, food use is gonna be one of my most favorite knife use of any given day.  Victorinox Steel is definitely perfect for the job.

Same here, I saw your comments a couple of pages ago about liking the 111mm and was going to quote you then, but this thread is a busy one.  :hatsoff:

Day 8

Some food prep - we’ve decided to cook some Vinegret salad - here’s more on it

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinegret

It is made of some boiled vegs that are cut into small cubicles and mixed together, so I decided to give both my 111mm knives a go.

Work Champ was the first to take the challenge  - awesome slicer, yet the handle is too big and heavy for peeling jobs

Later I added a Forester - slices just a tad worse than the Work Champ - not enough weight to get through the material, though really comfortable to hold while peeling a boiled potato for example

Being totally honest with you guys in late December I got myself a Buck 110 that I decided to compare alongside 111mm Vics, so here are my thoughts:
Work Champ is surely the best slicer - cuts through soft boiled vegs with zero effort. Forester is somewhere in between, while Buck surely is a great heavy-duty knife, but due to it’s blade geometry it’s not really slicing - it’s splitting the food like an axe, though all 3 knives are equally razor sharp. Though the sharp spine on a Buck blade really does great job for peeling a boiled vegetable

Anyway I’ve had my fun both slicing and eating the salad, hope you’ve had fun reading this too
Dream. Wish. Leave nothing undone. Repeat.

I was hesitant to join the 111mm challenge because I thought what if I end up liking this size?  Then what?  I'll have to carry one.
My concerns have come true, I really like this Outrider and have carried it for most of the challenge so far.   :salute:

Day 8: No bacon or cheese, but how about some peanut butter Phil? :D

An excellent idea Barry. I seem I to recall I have you to blame for trying it again after decades deliberately avoiding it.

Bring it on

I don't know what happened--I thought bacon is the de facto forum's favorite, but somehow we all switch to cheese after 2021?  Is this the new thread I am sensing here, like the sandal wearing?

Sandals? There's sandal wearing going on here??? Gosh. I know I hadn't been here a while - but my how things have changed ... but cheese? I thought bacon, peanut butter and Nutella had all made a regular appearance in postings here. And cheese of course. No question.  :2tu:

Day 8

I managed to have a variety of uses for opening one small package.  My earphone tips were in desperate need of replacing.  I used the little serrated blade on the RAF Hunter to open the package (what fun is there in using the provided perforations?).
Then I used the main blade to get into some extremely tough plastic.  I tried the gutting blade, but it didn't cut it.
I was thinking I should have chosen the SAK for the awl today, but then when I went to put the new tips on, there was some old foam that needed to be removed using the tweezers.
Also - I spared you the photo but I used the toothpick to scrape some gunk off

Good analysis. But you know what they say: you cannot slice your salad and eat it too. Or something like that
