Poker Day 17 (bonus action shots):

White chili. This is not my usual chili. When Mrs Nix requests a "bowl of red", that usually means beef, New Mexico chiles, garlic, cumin, etc.....  This is a bit of a departure for me.

And, yes, 'white chili' implies.....chicken*.

This was a fat local chicken. The Farmer made short-work of piecing it out for the stock pot.

No fancy knife work here. The bird got pieced out and poached with the onion from my first Day 17 photo. (Actually, after this photo, the legs were separated from the thighs and the wings were cut up, too.)

Now, chiles, garlic, cumin, onions, a little chili powder, beans and chicken stock are simmering away. It smells amazing.

Once my beans are cooked, I'll add back in the chicken meat and some thickeners (masa harina mixed with milk). Dinner should be quite acceptable this evening. I don't think Mrs Nix will be disappointed by this atypical chili.

* Chicken is obvious, but I would prefer Turkey. Mrs Nix likes chicken more....and...since this is a challenge...I went with chicken.

I have that issue if I try to outlast my sleeping meds. I have bought myself a couple of nice gifts...as well as random parts for vehicles I do not own.

I had the old zippo out, but what I was using it for wasn’t really conducive to a photo so here it is resting after it’s first job in about 25 years

I did that to a teacher in secondary. My supposedly oven proof dish (it was microwave proof) melted and rather than clean it up I skedaddled when the bell rang. Mrs MacKay (?) then unwittingly fired up all the ovens for the next class... She did have rather hairy eyebrows, so I don't know what all the fuss was about.

Poker Day 17 (follow-up shot):

The Chicken-poblano chili turned out to be quite good. If you asked me, I'd have said it needed a few more Jalapeños, but Mrs Nix liked it as it was served.

The Farmer more than proved itself for this chicken challenge.  :tu:
