My first mod: Cadet X
on: January 11, 2021, 06:21:43 AM
This is my first mod, came out well though my opening isn’t great. I reused pins from a 3-layer (salesman), where the scissors came from as well. I intended to also add the wood date from a Walker but the pins weren’t long enough and I didn’t have any pins stick to use, or another of the nickel silver liners. This build uses two nickel silver liners to keep it thin and classy.

I measured the knife with the saw, so 4 layers, and it was 0.51”. Less than a 3-layer cellidor - so I’m looking for 2.2mm pins stock and another nickel silver liner. Anyone know where to get 2.2mm pin stock and 84mm liners, either nickel silver or brass?

Thanks,
redd

Basically my dream SAK, huge fan of the cadet but, like many people, wish they’d bring out an X version (BantamX in alox too).
Thankfully we have the PX and FX for that alox scissors goodness :)
Looks great redd

Nice work, redd! 2.2mm brass rods are available on eBay in the UK.

Great results, redd!  The Cadet X was my first mod as well.  I built two, although I lost one sometime last year.  :(

Congratulations on your success.

I finally sourced an 84mm model with scissors (small Climber).

I'm very tempted to either make a Cadet X like this, or perhaps a Bantam X. I think a Cadet X would be very good though as scissors and nail file seem to make sense together, though I could replace the nail file with a small blade... hmm such decisions.  :ahhh

My struggle was whether to have a small blade or an inline awl portion a 93mm alox, I’ve never really used the nail file. I’ve now measured this and it’s 11.3mm thick. Adding the wood saw, and one more ns space would bring it to 13.5mm, just a little thinner than the two layer cellidor compact. This is my next project, and adding backside tools as shown by ComboTool here: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,85672.0.html
